Swing-Top bottle from Valhalla’s Goat. It pours jet black with a thick tan head. The nose is bitter-sweet, roasty, banana bread, booze, coffee and charred wood. The taste is smooth, rich-roast, coffee, cocoa, earth, treacle, umami notes, tar and ash with a dry finish. Medium-Fullish body and moderate carbonation. Quite drying. Not sure I could drink too much of it, but still not bad.

500ml bottle from The Beer Hive. Pours pale gold, thin white head. Aromas are butterscotch, stewed fruit, light overripe tropical fruit. Taste is far too sweet for me. Like a hybrid bitter/cider, but not taking the best parts of each.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. More carbonation than I’d expect from great German lager. Nose - lots of lime and sweetcorn. Taste - more citrus some honey and cornflakes. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy yet zingy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - good lager.

On keg at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head and steady bubbles. Nose - definitely stewed fruit in there though hard to say it’s apple. Taste - stewed fruits from apple to raisins or even figs. Creamy malt background giving it the overall effect of a fruitcake but then it’s really cold and fizzy which confuses me. Palate - medium bodied with a big tangy texture and a finish that is probably sweet but the carbonation and keg temperature cuts it short. Overall - not sure what I think of that. It’s rich and intense but the cold keg delivery cuts it back a bit.
