Description
Like many other early California towns, Davisville was full of hard drinkers. In 1867, when the population was only about 500, there were already nine saloons, outnumbering every other type of public establishment in town, including churches and restaurants. Prior to prohibition, the Davisville branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union tried three times to ban the sale of alcohol in town. They lost two town votes in 1874 and 1907, but finally prevailed in 1911 by getting the state legislature to enact a ban within a one-mile radius of campus, which was soon expanded to three miles.

This ban sought to prevent the corruption of young farming students at the then-fledgling university, and it stood all the way up until 1979, when it was finally lifted by the legislature almost fifty years after the repeal of prohibition. Davis' temperance statute meant if you wanted to buy beer for a party, or booze for any other occasion you had to go beyond the three mile limit. (Source: http://daviswiki.org/Town_History)

We wanted to pay tribute to this unique history and recognize that after nearly 70 years of legislation, this ban was finally lifted and led to the return of many fine local watering holes. We look forward to serving you our magnificent Red Ryder, Barkada Brown, MegaMax Imperial Stout, Honey Blonde Ale and other locally brewed craft beers in celebration that the ban was lifted!

Tap at the Davis Graduate. Pours gold with a white head. Resin aroma. Medium body. It’s more than moderately bitter, and it’s fairly dry. Not at all harsh. There’s some caramel aspect and that doesn’t seem to harm the bitterness. Going with pine/citrus for flavor. Nice drink.

Tap at Yolo 2017 event. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma definitely has honey. Med body or nearly. Flavor is honey and some caramel. For me it's lots of honey. Not dry, barely bitter. Tasty in a way.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours brassy gold with a white head. Grapefruit aroma. Med + body. It’s citrously dank. Lots of grapefruit and maybe some pale stone fruit. Zesty. Flavorful. Pretty dry. It’s very hoppy, and definitely bitter, but not harshly so. Great.

Tap at the taproom. Pours translucent gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma is white berry, citrus, very light caramel. Near med body. Flavor goes with the aroma. Not exactly dry, and fruity bitter. Sounds unlikely, but fruity bitter. It is very delicious.

Tap at the taproom. Pours translucent amber with a whitish head. Aroma of malt and rye - can’t identify hop - rye interferes. Med body. Flavor - rye for sure - other malt likely; hop? not a lot. Rye saves the day. Like rye!
