Description
CowDog Brew Company is a passion project by RCN veteran Michael Hodgson 12 years in the making. Michael has been home brewing since 2011 with the advent of the Brew Vic homebrew club. After several deployments in his 14-year career he was told he’s being put to pasture due to his injuries, so he needed to decide what to do next after his retirement.
Michael’s wife was discussing with him what he wants to do, and the topic of craft brewing came up, after that our fate was sealed. This is also where our name came from. Our rescue dog Louis has the nickname of CowDog, so we decided that was also going to be our future.

Cask pour at brewery. Pours clear golden brown. Aroma has sugary malts. Flavour has light brown sugar, brown bread. Very light carbonation. Simple, but drinkable.

On tap at CowDog, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is soft, with toasted bready malt, not much else. Flavour is soft and muddled, with chaotic bitterness and some metallic notes. Useless and borderline undrinkable. Ugh.

On tap at CowDog, pours a cloudy dark, muddled, amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma is very muddled, with murky, earthy hops and bready malt — ugh. Flavour is pretty egregious — sweetness, rough bittering earthy hops, some soil. This is just a total trainwreck despite not being infected. Clumsy and uncoordinated.

On tap at CowDog, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma has some butterscotch, bread malt, caramel and very subdued hops. Flavour is just way off, with tons of butterscotch upfront, toasted bready malt and nary a trace of hops. Way too much butterscotch. Bad.

On cask at CowDog, pours a hazy golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma is soft, with light esters and a touch of spicy saison yeast. Flavour is very soft — very strange to have a cask saison — with light ester, biscuity malt and a touch of spiciness. Not the right vehicle for the beer, but I can't imagine it's much better on keg. Lame.

On tap at CowDog, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma is fresh and clean, with soft wheat and some straw. Flavour is more or less clean, with soft pillowy wheat and a touch of metallic notes. Could be ironed out a little better but not a trainwreck.

Dark amber with a thick head. Aroma is old school pine and crystal malt. On the palate it has a light chewiness -not as chewy as that colour would indicate. Lemon and light pine hop. Medium bitterness.
