Bei der zum Heineken-Konzern gehördenden Brau-Union brauchte man ein leichtes BIlligbier, um auch dieses Segment abzudecken. Hier wurde aber keine der bekannten Marken genommen (möglicherweise um diese vor schlechter Rede zu schützen), sondern ein neuer Name entwickelt: Schützenbräu. Da es das Bier jetzt schon einige Jahre lang gibt, denke ich, dass es recht erfolgreich ist, obwohl es von den Diskontern billigere Eigenmarken-Biere gibt. Vielleicht hat man auch den Übergang vom Billigbier (Penner-Bier) zum bürgerlichen Leichtbier geschafft. Das Bier ist eher wässrig und man merkt deutlich, dass keine hohe Handwerkskunst dahinter ist. Man kann es gut trinken, weil es leicht die Kehle hinunter gleitet, aber der Bierkenner hat sicher nach einer halben Flasche genug.

Bottle on the train to Vienna. Pours out a crisp straw color topped with the white head. Nose is grain light toast grassy floral hops and spice. Taste is more of the grain toasted bread light hops and spice.

500ml bottle picked up at local spar while in Austria. Pours out a crisp golden topped with a white head. Nose is grain bread malts and grassy notes. Taste is more of the grain malts and some grassy hops.

Bottle. Brown color with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, bready, breadcrust some roasted characteristics. Taste is rusty, a bit vegetal, earthy, bready and breadcrust again. Oily mouthfeel. Okay.

0,5l bottle shared by a friend. yellow hazy color, small white head. smells peppery, tobacco, bit grainy, milky. average smell. Medium Body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes lightly sweet, peppery, tobacco, grainy, milky, bit grassy. finishes lightly bitter with notes of grass, tobacco and pepper. okish, but not overly exciting.
