Pours black with a quickly fading head.Nose shows roasted malt, spicy and bready rye notes, woody maple syrup and a bit of beechwood smoke.Very roasted flavours too with faint smoke underneath. Not as interesting as the aroma.Too much carbonation.

(Tap) Cloudy brown with no head. Aroma is subtle with some smokiness. Light body and pleasantly fizzy. Flavour has a refreshingly light start which develops into a rich coffee, dark chocolate and smoky finish. Overall a very nice beer.

From a 330ml bottle on 15/3/2013. The bottle is labelled 3 Ravens Golden Altbier and ABV is listed 5.0% but the description is the same as that listed above. Pours a slightly cloudy golden orange. Has a relatively slight fruity aroma. In the mouth, its quite flavoursome with lots of sweet citrus fruit (orange), some distinct spicy and herbal notes, and a medium hop present. An enjoyable ale.

From a 500ml bottle on 26/1/2013. Pours a very cloudy light amber with a small head. Has a very slight aroma of fruit, spice and toffee malt. The flavour features a bit more toffee malt, a bit of caramel, some sweet citrus and dark fruit, a touch of spice, and finishes with a medium bitterness. The palate is a touch watery. Okay, but I was expecting more.

Bottle, 11C. Deep amber with a light beige head that lasts. Clear, leaving lots of sediment in the bottle. Brooding aroma of toffee, earth, grapefruit and peaches. Creamy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Very sweet with loads of bitterness that cuts through the sweetness. Really quite English-tasting (struck me as an ESA cum barley wine). Peach, toffee/ butterscotch, earth, spices, grapefruit, kumquat, muscatels. A breath of alcohol at the end. Very rich. If I see more of these, I’ll give it a couple of years (and maybe share it). Fine brew.

Toffee, coffee, biscuit, citrus and rust emanate from the aroma of this English ale. It’s a really enjoyable smell that draws you in, and there’s lots to like about the taste too, although it’s a little thinner than you’d like. The length is really impressive, with lots of toffee and a little grapefruit slipping down the throat. Be warned, I’m a very, very long way from being an aficionado on English ales, but I very much enjoyed this.

This APA bordering on an IPA has an aroma of grapefruit, tangerine and popcorn with a little honey riding shotgun. It’s a lovely mélange of flavours. The taste is a little more basic, with a strong grapefruit flavour coming through on a slightly thin palate. A very pleasant Summer beer.

Cask at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Dark mahogany pour with little lacing. Light malty aroma. Smoked malty taste, but was expecting much more smoke than this. Perhaps I'm more used to the European smoked beers that come more heavily smoked. A nice ale that I would certainly drink again but not what I expected from the label. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 12C. Very dark brown with a light tan head that fades to a cm. Aroma of treacle, mocha, grass, vanilla, prunes, figs, peat. Sweet, but lighter-bodied than suggested by the aroma. Silky mouthfeel; like the way it’s full but well short of syrupy. Briefly sweet with treacle, coffee, raisins, mandarin peel, lots of prunes and some spices. Dries out at the end leaving dried fruits, hints of pepper and smoky wood. Weight of the beer is commensurate with flavours. Perhaps the woody finish arrives a bit soon, but I like this a lot.

Bottle. Dark amber with a pale beige head. Floral and fruity aroma with pears, peaches, light toffee, pepper. Fairly light-bodied with more fruit and peppery hops than toffee. A little too much carbonation for me for this sort of thing. Lacks a bit of presence for the ABV, but the hops are zingy enough to stop it from being bland. Refreshing.
