A golden amber pils with a thick big bubbled white head. In aroma, a perfumey malt with floral fruity notes, apple juice. In mouth, a sweet candy malt with nutty rye notes, light hopping, lingering on, grainy finale. Bottle shared with GRM and ProbstK, August 5 2011. Thanks Karl.

Served at 14.5c/57.9f. It’s a rather boring gold body with a semi-solid head, but you wouldn’t write home about it. Soft malt aroma of a bad cheap lager. Flavour is a mix of malts and a bit of barley and caramel; okay I suppose. Dry finish. Not a bad lager, but far from a good lager.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours very dark amber/brown with a 3 finger foamy beige head. Aromas of dark fruits, vanilla and oak? Full bodied. Foamy carb. Flavor is quite bourbon, with some dark fruit and nuts, but it’s alcohol and bourbon, primarily. Almost a cola touch. Oak astringency is very light. Finish is mildly sweet. It really tastes very good.

On tap at Beer Island, Coney Island New York on 26th July 2011. Copper with a yellow white head and rings of lacing. Yeasty aroma. Roasted malts and citric hop in-mouth. Tangy citric end. Light mouthfeel.

Sampled on draft at D’s in Monroeville this beer poured a hazy dark amber color with a medium sized soapy white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy sugar and almost artificial grape. The flavor was tangy artificial sweetener, butter and bread. Long tangy and buttery finish. Medium body. Not too good.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark plum-red color with a huge salmon colored head that lingered. The aroma was sweet sugar with tart vague fruits though a bit artificial. The flavor was tangy table sugar with light tart vague fruits and a nutty and bready undertone. Medium length tart fruit and saccharine finish. Medium body. Eh.

I really need to try to set aside style designation here when I try to rate this, but it will be difficult considering that this is nowhere close to being a pils, aside from the fact that it is a lager - "hey guys, let’s make a beer with seven different malts (two of which are rye) and four hops (none of which are typically associated with pilsners) and market it as a pils" - fuck that - the beauty of a pils is in its simplicity, guys - anyway - hazy straw - aroma is light honey, toasted grains, light Vienna richness, lightly spicy rye - flavor is strongly husky/grainy and moderately bitter - earthy, American hop profile - a honey sweetness through the tail end and finish - herbal, tea-like character - too much apparent alcohol in the finish - drinkable, with no glaring flaws, but NOT a pilsner.

Taste: Sweet caramel, brown sugar and bitter ripe fruit in the finish
OK but way sweet for me. I had no idea this was 10%, good thing it was so sweet I couldn’t finish the pint.
