Cask @ EBBC14, Dublin [270614]
Pitch black, dense tan rich creamy head, good lacing
Aroma or rich dark malts, soft rich dark plain chocolate, nice mellow coffee, soft piney hops, dab of floral hops, smells quite like a Black IPA, great
Taste of dark chocolate, rich dark malts, mellow mellow soft roast malts, really stouty, then a layer of piney hops on top, and a bit of floral hop there too, alcohol totally hidden. This is going into Black IPA territory and tastes absolutely superb...it reminds me of cask Buxton Imperial Black.
Palate - Medium body, smooth, fairly sweet dark malts with a touch of bitter roast and hops. Served from a one-off small cask and was lacking condition a bit as was a tad flat, but still had a great palate, with a smooth finish which continued that excellent flavour on, none of that burnt bitterness.
Overall - This is a superb cask beer and what I like to see in a stout. On top condition on cask, easily in the very top Irish beers for me so far available. I really hope to see this again soon.....

Bottle from Deveney’s. Interesting label. Pours a maroon to deep orangey-brown into the pint glass. No head, no lacing. Aroma is sweet biscuit malts, some floral hops, very little rye notes. Flavor is all malt, biscuit, bread, caramel, some rye hints here but still very slight, some hop bitterness in the finish. Thin watery mouthfeel. Very reminiscent of a traditional English session ale, not meant to be very flavorful or interesting.

Bottle @ The Salthouse, Galway [160414]
Caramel brown, clear, thin white head...I like the quirky label
Aroma of caramel malts, soft toasted malts, soft bitter hops, some hedgerow fruit notes, slight dark honey, hint of black tea(?)
Taste of soft bitter hops, nice sweet caramel malts, soft cereal notes, some English bitter and hedgerow fruit hops, rich brown caramel, some toasted malts, dab of brown sugar, slight dark honey
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, fairly oily, fairly sweet malts with some soft bitter hops
Overall - Comes across as a decent fairly sweet brown malty bitter, not come across a beer like this brewed in Ireland. Certainly, cask would be the natural home for this beer and bring it out in it’s best light.

Draught. Cloudy red with a small head, ok lacing. Aroma is light caramel. Flavour is fairly sweet, malty, rye is very subtle. Smooth creamy texture, sweet base with a light bitter finish. A bit too sweet, but easy drinking.
