Description
The inception of Angry James Brewery came from the love of craft beer. After spending years working at other breweries and brewing for himself at home, AJ decided to pursue his passion for beer and brewing, taking it to the next level as a brewery owner. In 2014, AJ and his wife Darcy, sold their small house in Denver as seed money for this new venture. They were able to purchase a small piece of land in Silverthorne and find jobs in Summit and Eagle County to make ends meet while beginning the Angry James Brewery project.

Construction of the brewery began in early 2016. There were many challenges in this phase, as there always are with new construction. AJ and Darcy, with the help from family, friends and a whole slew of subcontractors, spent 2 years building a facility that would not only manufacture beer, but also provide a fun spot for the community to gather. On a cold evening in late January 2018, Angry James was born!

The namesake is a bit of a farce, he’s really not that angry. And if he is, it wasn’t us who did it to him!

16 oz. can. Clear, straw color, with a small, off-white head. The nose is caramel, strong resin, toast, lavender, and pine. Sweet and malty, with a sticky, assertive bitterness. Medium body, astringent, and clingy. Nice, classic IPA.

Half pour at the brewery. Pours a clear, mahogany color, with a small, beige head. The aroma is apple juice, toffee, pecans, toast, chalk, and whiskey. Sweet and quite boozy. Bold and pretty tasty.

Can states 5.5%, not 6.4. Very restrained--too much so, really--with a light chocolate malt front accented by mild notes of cascara, baking chocolate, and cherry. Light-bodied and drinkable, but the lack of java roastiness or bitterness is apparent. Needs more oomph.

Draft at Angry James Brewery, Silverthorne, CO. Smells like a Tootsie Roll! Nice chocolate flavor with a little bit of light coffee flavor too. Okay. The 6.4 ABV is well hidden.

Draft at Angry James Brewery, Silverthorne, CO. Pitch black pour with a small beige head. Nice roasted dark malts flavor. A little thin mouthfeel for a brown ale but still very good. Clean finish. I like it.

Draft at Angry James Brewery, Silverthorne, Colorado. Clear bronze color. Very pretty pour. Taste is more of a classic German Oktoberfest versus a malty American version. Good caramel flavor, but not quite as sweet as I prefer. Clean and smooth. The 6.3 ABV is well hidden.
