Bighand Bros x Hino Brewing Vesuvianite Polish Hazy IPA 6.5% IBU 24

Hazy gold with eggshell white foam and a juicy citrus aroma. Medium bodied with a raspy mouthfeel. The taste starts off juicy then coconut, and green hoppiness.

Quite an interesting brew.

On tap at their brewery in Nishijin.

Big Hand Bros. Black Jade Porter
4.5% 22 IBU

Cola brown verging on black with tan foam and a chocolatey aroma. Medium bodied with a bit of a scratchy carbonation. Nice chewy chocolate malt flavor, think chocolate buns.

It’s got a simple flavor profile but sure hit the spot. Solid.

Big Hand Bros. Hematite
Brown Ale 5% 25 IBU

Lovely amber brown with thin beige foam and a nutty caramel aroma. Medium bodied with a clean fairly crisp finish. Brown sugar, caramel and slightly nutty with a touch of toffee. Light crisp easy drinking brown ale. It’s been awhile.

Big Hand Bros Jasper
Red Rye Ale 5% 28 IBU

Nice Amber gold with fairly dense light beige foam that lingered longer than Stibnite’s, it also left more lacing behind. The aroma has that peppery caramel I often get from rye beers. Full bodied with raspy mouthfeel. It has a malt-forward flavor that gives lots of caramel, spicy rye and some surprising floral notes. Fun stuff.

Big Hand Bros x Groundtap Stibnit Irish Red Ale 4.3% 21 IBU Half pints are still quite reasonable here. This russet colored brew has thin light beige foam and a mildy toasted caramel aroma. Medium bodied but with a very crisp finish. Caramel, fruitcake and tobacco flavors with hints of chocolate bun in the aftertaste. Tasty. There’s also a red rye ale on tap I think I’ll try next…

Tap at Teramachi. Bright gold with a high, quickly dissipating head. Malty, bready nose, touch of butter, spicy hops with a touch of citrus. Bready, doughy flavor with a touch of diacetyl but not enough to bother me. Light, spicy hops.

Tap on Teramachi. Bright gold with some haze and a medium head. Malty nose with light honey and lemon. Full, big malt flavor with great depth and balance. Prickly hop finish. Definitely in the modern festbier style, which is rare and interesting. Really well made.

I can’t believe they had 1/3 of pints for less than 500¥! I almost got two drinks because of that but decided to stick with just one half-pint at 650¥. Big Hand Bros x Nomcraft x The Clapham Inn English Mild Light Al 3.5% A ruddy brown with the barest wisp of beige foam. Chocolate and cocoa bun aroma, light bodied with a prickly carbonation. The taste adds mild treacle, biscuit and raisins to the chocolate bun notes from the aroma. Nice easy drinking brew but for it to truly shine I think it needs to be on cask.
