(Bottle sample @ Witchstock 2018, Toronto, Sept 29/18) Pours nearly clear dark gold with a small white head. Notes of impressively rich tart apples, hefty overlay of red wine and fruit skins, nice acidity has a little acetic wine vinegar component, woody depth and soft tannin, musty funk, quite dry into the finish with lots of lingering tart apple and wine. Medium bodied, oily and very softly carbonated. The extended time in barrel really did a number on this cider, there's a much greater barrel quality and heavier acidity than other West Ave I have tried. Lovely.

(Bottle sample @ Witchstock 2018, Toronto, Sept 29/18) Pours slightly cloudy bright gold with a small white head. Notes of semi-sweet apple must, moderate oak, ample barnyard funk with a blue cheese bite, finishing pretty clean and dry with some powdery, chalky yeast/mineral vibes and lingering funk. Medium bodied with above average carbonation. Quite a solid funky cider, the blue cheese quality makes it stand out from others.

(750ml bottle shared by Herbalist, thanks!) Massive gusher. Pours nearly clear pale yellow with a rapidly fading white head and ongoing bubbling. Notes of lightly tart apples fermented quite dry, though juicy up front, gooseberry, lime peel, soft white grape, fresh grass, barrel woodiness, hint of funk, quite vinous, bone dry finish is lightly yeasty, dry cider/sparkling wine vibe, bit of wood. Medium bodied, nice effervescent carbonation is edging towards methode traditionnelle. The grapes are more obvious on the nose and into the finish, but on the whole it feels like a dry sparkling wine - Prosecco or the like - with the apple component relatively stronger. Quite nice, good balance, no sign of booze.

(On tap @ Birreria Volo, Toronto, Apr 20/18) Pours fairly hazy pale straw gold with an average white head. Notes of lightly sweet and complex layers of crisp red and green apple, soft wood, yeasty quality, touches of wet funky hay, a bit of apple (and maybe lactic?) acidity, finishes dry with a little wood/tannin in the aftertaste. Light to medium bodied, mouth-filling fizz. Very nice and smooth, not particularly brash, well-balanced and the barrels add a subtle touch.

(750ml bottle shared by Herbalist, thanks!) Pours clear medium gold with a tiny fading white head. Notes of sweet and lightly caramelized apple with a light fresh tart edge remaining, soft vanilla, wood, bourbon, touches of alcohol warmth and oxidation, maybe grape? Balance is light to moderate sweet, softly acidic, quite round, and off-dry on the finish. Hides the 9% ABV well. Medium bodied, slick, very lightly carbonated. Interesting, the barrel notes needed a bit of air to pop out more but when they did it turned into a much better-balanced and complex drink. Nice alternative to wine barrels for ageing.

(On tap @ Birreria Volo, Toronto, Jan 19/18) Pours a clear medium gold with a small white head. Notes of tart pale red-type apple, white wine, peachy/tropical fruitiness, moderately acidity, nicely concentrated, maybe a bit of all Brett-type ester quality to it?, quite dry overall, zippy, penetrating apple quality in the finish and aftertaste. Medium bodied, oily, fairly softly carbonated. Nice refreshing apple-forward cider, no nonsense, well crafted.
