Description
The brewery is located in the picturesque village of Kötschach-Mauthen, Gailtal, Carinthia and derives its name from the old celtic name of Mauthen. Wonderful freshly brewed beer is celebrated here, with its own source, the best raw materials and a lot of love for the product. The brewhouse is modern and state of the art, the beer is traditionally fermented in the open fermentation tank. We are Gailtal's first brewery and have continued the craft that was practiced in Mauthen in 1700. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been continuously expanded and the range expanded. Far from the mass products of the corporations, artisanal beer is produced here.

330 ml bottle, bb 11 Jul 2018.
Dark brown body, with a big, fluffy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of gingerbread indeed, chocolate, cocoa, dark bread, nuts, some dark fruits.
Tastes similar, with some more toast.
mouthfeel, with a carbonation.
Finishes toasty, moderate roasty, spicy, with gingerbread again, bread, cocoa, nuts.
Nice one. Indeed like liquid gingerbread, while not too sweet, with enough toastiness. Not very diverse, but really quaffable. Enjoyable winter beer.

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Mildly roasted malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate, mocha, a whiff of liquorice and a berry-fruity touch. Moderately sweet and slightly sour flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Slightly roasted malt character with notes of mocha, dried fruits; finishes rather sweet and a bit cloying. Okay. 05.I.18

Flasch'n: Hazy, light amber coloured, small and stable off-white foamy layer; sweet caramelly-fruity nose, traces of wheat and cloves included; solid sweet flavour, almost cloying, any traces of bitterness or acidity hardly detectable; medium to full bodied; relatively short sweet-fruity finish with a shy late bitterness. Not convincing, too monotonous, too sweet. Tu felix Austria, nube...

The ginger comes through very intensely, a bit too strong. The malt bill is a little too thin on the body to back up the harshness of the spices. 2017 advent calendar

330ml bottle. Pours an unclear red-brown with a medium, frothy, short lived, beige head that laces. Spicy aroma of wheat malt, light roast, ginger, cinnamon, anise and nutmeg. Sweet, spicy flavour of wheat malt, light roast, bread, caramel, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and light anise with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Light body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Just ok.
