Description
The brewery is located in the picturesque village of Kötschach-Mauthen, Gailtal, Carinthia and derives its name from the old celtic name of Mauthen. Wonderful freshly brewed beer is celebrated here, with its own source, the best raw materials and a lot of love for the product. The brewhouse is modern and state of the art, the beer is traditionally fermented in the open fermentation tank. We are Gailtal's first brewery and have continued the craft that was practiced in Mauthen in 1700. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been continuously expanded and the range expanded. Far from the mass products of the corporations, artisanal beer is produced here.

Tasting at Matt’s
Brown color. Caramel tones with some vegetables (cabbage, celery), and almost no bitterness; the sweetness is not really there, it’s mostly because of the lack of bitterness. Terribly boring.

Has a hazy light brown colour. The aroma is not much. Bit sweet, has a brown sugar note, but not much of one. Everything is kind of muted. A bit of cinnamon. Not all that interesting.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out some licorice, followed by some bubblegum, and some candied sugar. Flavour is along the same lines, with light licorice, candied sugar, a little bubblegum and dark fruits. Not overly well-integrated and rather sweet, but not elegant or with much depth. Okay.

0.33 l bottle from ’CraftBeer-Dealer.com’, best before September 2017. Murky brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, moderately fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy aroma of pear, apples, clove and banana. Sweetish, yeasty-spicy and moderately fruity taste of pear, clove, some bubblegum and banana, followed by a short, slightly bitter, moderately yeasty-spicy finish. Almost medium-bodied, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Refreshing and satisfying at the same time, not too deep though, feels a bit thin as well. Nice beer though!

Kalea Bier-Adventkalender 05.12.2016
