Description
The brewery is located in the picturesque village of Kötschach-Mauthen, Gailtal, Carinthia and derives its name from the old celtic name of Mauthen. Wonderful freshly brewed beer is celebrated here, with its own source, the best raw materials and a lot of love for the product. The brewhouse is modern and state of the art, the beer is traditionally fermented in the open fermentation tank. We are Gailtal's first brewery and have continued the craft that was practiced in Mauthen in 1700. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been continuously expanded and the range expanded. Far from the mass products of the corporations, artisanal beer is produced here.

Bottle in my Vienna Hotel. Light haze on this gold beer. Good white head. Palate is softish and dry. Fine carbonation. Dry pale malt, a little paper. Minerals. Trace hops. Not a great Helles.

Bottle in my Vienna Hotel. Hazy amber beer, good white head. Palate is smooth with fine carbonation. Soft creamy caramel malt. Mild minerals. Semi dry finish. Pretty simple stuff but quite drinkable.

Bottle in my Vienna hotel room. Light haze on this amber beer. Little white head. Palate is light and smooth. Mild fine carbonation. Sweetish malt, trace of caramel. Not much in the way of hops here. Just a trace of sweetish orange citrus. Finishes light and dry. Not a bad beer but really not an IPA.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy dark brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, moderately lacing, tan head. Grainy, dark malty aroma with roasty touch, slightly musty coffee flavour. Taste is minimally sweet, dark caramel malty with a nuttily touch, has notes of coffee, hints of roast; fairly lasting, minimally sticky finish. Not bad, some nice flavours in a rudimental mode, overall too grainy in character.
