(Bottle 33 cl) Danish beer bottle! Slightly hazy golden with a small, rough, off-white head leaving laces. Tart, Bretty aroma. Quite a light body, lightly tart accents but in a very subtle and pleasant way. Dry finish. A very lovely beer. The brewer confirmed that this is genuinely spantaneously fermented. 310108

(Bottle 33 cl) Comes in a Danish beer bottle! Pours very dark brown with a vague tint of orange and a rough, beige head. Big aroma of nuts, wood and alcohol. Good, full, body, very low in carbonation with plenty of accents of dried fruit, nuts, wood and alcohol. Slightly burned in the finish. As most Mussel Inn beers this defies category, but I find Old Ale to be the closest style. 310108

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a slightly hazy golden with a creamy, off-whitehead leaving a neat, broad lacework. Aroma of fruit, diacetyl and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with a very soft and velvety mouthfeel, lots of fruit and a whiff of Belgian yeast. The finish is astringent and alcoholic. 310108

(On tap) Slightly hazy, pale golden - completely without any head. Lightly tart and very clean apple aroma.. Light in body with fairly tart apple notes - almost no sweetness to be detected. Very fresh! And a little rough.... 290108

(On tap) Clear, dark brown with an orange hue and a small, off-white head. Fairly roasted malt aroma. Light in body for such a dark beer. Hard roasted malt accents also leaving some malt astringency. A very quaffable Porter. 290108

(On tap) Clear, golden with a white head leaving some lacework. Soft, lightly sweet aroma. Medium body with good, clean malts and again a distinct bitter hoppiness in the finish. They certainly aren’t afraid of hops at The Mussel Inn. 290108

(On tap) In their own beer menu description this is called a "Crystal Weizen". Almost clear, pale golden with a small, white head leaving some lacing. Very delicate and sophisticated aroma from the Sauvin hops - I think I can actually smell some Sauvignon Blanc here - is that where the hops got their name from? Medium body with a dry malt base and a fairly bitter finish. 290108

(On tap) Slightly hazy amber with an off-white head leaving some laces. Exotic, spicy and enticing aroma. Medium body with light notes of caramel, exotic fruits and a dry and fairly bitter finish. Incredibly flavourful for such a light beer. 290108

Bottled. Cloudy amber, very small head. Hoppy aroma of melon and mango. Medium sweet and near full bodied with soft mouthfeel. The bitterness is surprisingly low after all the hop aroma. A full sized ale displaying NZ hops, but perhaps not the most complex of their beers. Mussel Inn however rank as one of the most charming locations to have a beer anywhere.

Bottled. Near black, no head. Roasty and lightly grainy. Very dry and salty with medium body. The mouthfeel is a little bit coarse, but when it warms some coffee and chocolate shows up and covers that. Surprisingly low bitterness.
