A pint on draft from the brewery, I was accompanied by Howie the corgi on a warm early summer afternoon. The serving was a clear yellow-gold liquid with a minute head of completely white foam. And the taste was in-line with your basic IPA. Pine, citrus, an acceptable amount of hoppiness and malt. I usually appreciate a more challenging beer more, not the case this time. The brewery has other offerings I like considerably more.

A 16 oz tap at the brewery on a rainy afternoon with the granddog. I view a gold-yellow body with little more than a ring of solidly white foam. The smell is mildly hoppy with grain and citrus. I take a taste and get a mellow bit of grass, pine, a touch of lemon, malt and a small hoppiness. A subdued bitterness and the brew is definitely dry. I like an IPA to have more oomph.

Another sampling at the brewery recently. Pint glass, dark brown in color with a slender taupe covering. The scent is lightly dates with grain. And the taste is figs, dates, a quite noticeable amount of spices hinging on too much, wheat bread and pecans. A nice domestic dubbel, a style I appreciate a lot.

A pint pour at the brewery with the fair daughter and her corgi, Howie. She and I were here several years ago on the day the place opened, we talked about that. The view of the brew is a clear dark gold with a consistent skim of off-white foam. It smells of toasted bread and the taste is grain, malt and a small touch of toffee. An average offering of the style, no criticism exactly because it is hard to rise to be extraordinary.

I have 12 oz can that came from a local retailer, my first Tall City brew not from the brewery and the label is pretty cool, I must say. Like anybody has any concern over all that. A nice beer glass catches the pour, a lemony, hazy liquid topped with a heavy head of white foam. The nose, well, curious, some tropical, a bit of tangerine and then some...not sure. Less of the standard NE style taste than expected, subdued mango and tropical overall but then a little something else. Not their best.

Last beer sampled on a recent day at the brewery on a nice summer afternoon. Barley wines have become an appreciated style of beer so I have been looking forward to this tasting. Delivered on tap in a snifter with a generous serving by the server, thank you very much. It is a dark amber-brown with reddish highlights and an almost non-existent ring of tan foam. The smell is of dark fruit and wheat bread. I have a drink and determine caramel, honey, grain, plums, malt and a bit of raisin. Just the right sweetness. A credible barley wine.

Sampled at the brewery in a pint shaker. It arrives a clear yellow-gold in color with a ring of white foam circling the glass. Lemon, corny sort-of, grain, crisp and containing a bit of astringency. It gives a nice, full sensation. Surprisingly good for an appreciated style.

The local brewery has a quadrupel, good news and a surprise. 1/2 pint serving from the tap in a 16 oz snifter. It shows a dark copper in color with a persistent thin head of parchment tan foam. A pleasant scent, red plums, grain and cherries. The taste is likewise pleasant, ripe red fruit, malt, some yeast, a glimmer of sweetness and just enough bitterness to make it obvious. Raw but not bad.

My most recent visit to Tall City Brewing Brewing. I am having Haboob, their Hefeweizen this time, from the tap in a pint shaker glass. The delivery is a copper-brown with the barest of a white head. I taste, malt, white bread, a slight caramel sweetness and spice, cinnamon I think. A decent offering, no great shakes.

I was able to sample 2 Degrees at the brewery their first day of business, a 16 oz shaker glass of it. It came a reddish-brown with a slim skim of light tan foam. I tasted a bit of caramel, malt, grain and water. Not bad, nothing out of the world. A decent first try from the brewery.
