Bottle pour into nonic pint glass. Aroma is burnt/roasted malt, unsweetened chocolate, coffee, cereal. Appearance is hazy orange brown, without sparkle, minimal off-white head with poor retention and trace lacing. Taste is mix of moderate sweet and bitter with smokey/burnt roasted malts, hints of chocolate and coffee. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, lively carbonation and long bittersweet finish. Overall, certainly a malt-dominated aroma and flavor but there is some bitterness here for balance. I’ve got to give it a couple of points for nostalgia--my brothers and sister would head down to the Coliseum with my Dad to catch a Nighthawks game--can still smell the arena. The old ale kind of captures the nostalgia.
