Description
Champion brewing company is Virginia's most progressive brewery, producing a wide variety of ales in two locations: our downtown Charlottesville tap room and our Belmont production facility. Our production brewery known as the 'missile factory' produces our core and seasonal beers on a 30-barrel brewhouse, at a current operating capacity of 15,000 barrels per year. Our original tap room produces constantly changing and innovative seasonals, one-offs, and barrel-aged wild beers.

Can from Tavour. Pours dark brassy gold with a slight white head. Aroma is extremely citrus in a grapefruit way. Med + body. Flavor is so hoppy I can imagine garlic. Clearly grapefruit tho. Somewhat towards juicy. Not quite dry, but very hoppy and smoothly bitter. Delicious.

On tap at Champion, yesterday. Again, a beer today that tastes infected. "Hair tonic" is written in my notebook... along with brown leaves, grasses, light caramel.

On tap at Champion, yesterday. Flavor is chemical (this is like the 4th beer that seems infected today - they're usually on the mark), green grasses and hops, brown leaves. My handwritten notes again say "hair tonic."

On tap at Champion, yesterday. Pours gold. Flavor is hair tonic (what's the deal today? multiple beers have a chemical taste...), coffee grounds, dirt. Not great, unfortunately.

On tap at Champion yesterday. Pours golden. Aroma is hair tonic, green grasses. Flavor is hair tonic, green grass, dust, earth, cracker. Definitely the English version... bland, especially in the day with so many flavorful IPAs.

Deep, very hazy orange and copper coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall just off-white head that fades pretty quickly to just about nothing. Aroma of floral and piney notes with some earth, a bit of light citrus and mostly a light alcohol and malt scent with the noticeable amarillo hop bite in the nose. Medium to Full-bodied; Assertive herbal and grassy flavours with quite a bit of pine and alcohol noticeable on the tail end with a supportive malt quality and a dose of grain noticeable at the end as well. Aftertaste shows some citrus and lighter herbal notes, but this is all about the deeper and more floral, grassy and pungent hop bitterness towards the end. Overall, a decent and relatively well-balanced Imperial IPA that showcases the Amarillo hop, which I'm not a tremendous fan of, but this beer is a good representation of that, which I can appreciate. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 31-January-2018 for US$3,41 sampled at home in Washington just nineteen days later on 19-February-2018.
