Description
Crooked Spider is a small-scale brewery originating in Wassenaar, with a passion to brew artisinal beers of high quality. All beers find their inspiration in different parts of the world. Crooked Spider beers have been awarded prizes both nationally and internationally. Crooked Spider was set up by Niels Beekhuizen whose interest in brewing beer has grown to a true passion during his studies Process & Food Technology. Crooked Spider has been brewing on a small scale since October 2014.

Bottle. Almost black. Roast, ash and licorice in the aroma. Hint of smoke. Malty sweet, roasty, alcoholic flavor with ash and lots of salted licorice. Almost full bodied.

Draft at Het Rootz Lentebierfestival ‘19. Near black with a small beige head. Aroma of dark malt, dark chocolate, licorice, caramel and coffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled at Rootz lentebierfestival. Black with small tan head. Licorice, roast, sweet toffee malts, ash, more licorice, burnt grains. Over medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied with creamy feel.

Bottle shared at THT actually July! Slight hazy light golden with huge fizzy white head. Light spicy yeast, soft apple, dead yeast, light sweet malts, soft flowers, light watery and lots of minerals. Over light sweet and bitter. Over light bodied with lots of carbonation.

THT July at Kwartje. Hazy golden with white head. Sweet malts, coriander, lemon. Moderate sweet and bitter, light tart. Light sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation.

Grote Markt Summer Beer 2018. Near clear deep amber, rusty brown with offwhite head. Smells of bandaids and space aids. Overripe bananas, brown sugar, rye bread. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Medium body, very malty and soft carbonation. I’m sorry but the truth is I just never want to drink this again.

Tap at Grote Markt festival. Clear dark brown with beige head. Sweet grains, lots of tea, soft berries, bitter herbs, red grapes, light spicy yeast, caramel, light woody. Over medium sweet and bitter, hint of tartness. Over medium bodied. Not a tripel, but not horrible.

Bottle (thanks Maakun). Pours black with brownish head. Aroma is sweet, molass, roast, whisky, vanilla, some sourness. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, malt, cocoa, whisky, sour notes, oak, plums. Finish is plums and dark chocolate with molasses and booze. Carbonation is rather high. Overall: good.
