Bottle. Light hazy amber, big golden head. fresh grassy nose. Medium light dry sparkly body - feels fresh on the palate. Light grain, good portion floral and grassy hops, fresh and green. Very pleasant, not all Maibock manage to embody spring this way.

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, golden to light-amber colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Mildly sour, fruity and floral aroma with notes of berries, citrus and apricot. Quite bitter and delicately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a mildly spritzy carbonation. Yeasty, slightly bready “specialty grain” character with subtle fruity notes and a rather harsh level of bitterness; dry and yeasty and hop-bitter finish with a fruity and floral, almost a bit perfumed note. 18.IX.15

Flasche: Deep golden, hazy, quite stable mid-sized creamy off-white head; moderate honeyish and herbal to piney hoppy nose, which is not too sweet; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, barely medium bodied; solid and lingering dry piney-hoppy finish with some subdued honeyish malt.Seems to be a stronger version of the delicious Perlenschatz. Great, great franconian stuff…

Vielen Dank an Erzengel! Trübe orangegelbe Farbe, geringe weiße Schaumkrone. Der Geruch ist sehr malzig, belgische Hefe, Gewürze. Der Geschmack ist fruchtig malzig, hefig, Gewürze, wenig bananig.

Meinel-Bräu Classic Pils, Flasche von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin. - Goldgelb, klar; üppige Schaumkrone. - In der Nase flache Malzsüße, milde grasige Hopfennoten, stumpfe Hopfenextrakt-Töne. - Im Antrunk etwas zu prominente Malzsüße, stumpf grasige Hopfenherbe, aber auch schöne Zitronenöl-Noten. Etwas milder rezent als üblich. Im Abgang wenig aromatische, etwas schroff grasige Herbe vom Hopfenextrakt. Unschön stumpf-bitterer, trockener Nachtrunk. - Kein Klassiker, nur ein zweitklassiges Pils. Könnte wesentlich besser sein, wenn es nicht vom Hopfenextrakt verdorben würde. (14.8.2015: 2,6.)
Neuverkostung, Flasche von ebendort. - Das Classic Pils vom Meinel-Bräu heißt jetzt nur noch Pils, ist aber mit einiger Sicherheit das gleiche Bier wie früher (laut Etikett gebraut seit 120 Jahren). - Goldgelb, fast klar; üppige Schaumkrone. - In der Nase feine Hopfenaromen, elegante Zitrone, etwas Gras und schöne helle Malzsüße. - Im Antrunk weiche helle Malzsüße, die durch unerwartet milde Hopfung mehr Prominenz erlangt als ihr zusteht. Wie durch einen Schleier schmecke ich milden grasigen und zitronigen Hopfen. Durchschnittlich rezent, nicht gerade schlank. Im Abgang blasse grasige Herbe. Schwacher Nachtrunk. - Meine obige Bewertung muß ich nur leicht revidieren: Kein Klassiker, nur ein zu knapp gehopftes fränkisches Pils. (21.10.2021.)

Fresh yeasty-floral nose. Fruity and sweetish yeast. The beer starts fresh and grainy, fruity-smooth with a nice yeasty (and not too sweet) body. Not as floral-hoppy as I thought, but round and smooth. The aftertaste is dry and has hints of white wine, together with a full clove Weißbier-yeast finish, moderated hopped. Interesting.

0,33cl from Rudat. Edition Winter 2014/2015. Very dense nose. Dried fruit, roasted malt, dark molasses. The beer starts fruity and dark. Quite easy to drink for the 8%. The body is deep, not too complex. Roasted, dark dried fruit, nice bitterness. I don’t get the promised dark chocolate not too much, but the cherries are there with hints of espresso. Very nice, easy to drink Barley Wine. Could be a bit more complex, but then the drinkability would be lower.

On tap @FrankenFest (Rome), shared by Gianluca. Pours deep brown with a little head. Aroma is malty, caramel, some grassy hops traces. Flavour is medium sweet but well balanced, caramel, burnt malts, hops in the end. Medium body, medium carbonation. Nice one.

On tap @Bir&Fud (Rome). Pours golden with a big white head. Aroma of bread, floral, grass, mild citrus, nice. Flavour of bread, cereals, yeasts, light bitter, crisp and tasty, refreshing. Medium to light body, medium carbonation. Another good beer from Franconia.
