Description
Scotland has a deeply fascinating history when it comes to brewing and we wanted to pay homage to these roots when creating our name. Calton Hill Brewery in Edinburgh was the first brewery in Britain to create lager way back in 1835. The small suburb that the brewery called it’s home earned the name Cauld Toon as it sat directly in the in the cold shadow of Arthur’s Seat. Over time, this colloquially became Cal-ton. Carlton Hill could therefore be known as Cold Town Hill, and suddenly our name was born.

Clear, pink beer, thin white head. Light raspberry aroma, flavour follows suit. It's very mellow, a little watery. There's some citrus zest in there as well. Decent enough, but not loads going on.

Clear golde. Beer, thick white head. Light fruity smell. Flavour is bittersweet fruit, a little bitter hop, lactose... And too much of it, slightly spoils what might otherwise have been a crisp, refreshing fruity pale. It's not bad, but the lactose does make it a bit less drinkable.

Can from Aldi? Or was it Lidl? It pours clear po ale gold with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet, intoxicating peach essence, reminds me of peach flavoured fizzy white head, artificial, tangy and sugary peach wine. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, some bitterness, grassy, dry oak, tannin, salty cracker, waxy peel, floral, soapy and the peach is more subdued on the taste sits in the backdrop with a drying, woody finish. Average body and moderate carbonation. Quite a disconnect between aroma and flavour. Not unpleasant, just unusual.

330ml can from a local Lidl: BBE September 2023, drank at home on 24th November 2022. Clear body, slight red hue to the golden colour, large white head. Aroma is all about the passionfruit content, the taste also dominated by the the same fruitiness. Not really getting the vanilla or milk.

Can from Lidl. It pours clear pale golden / blonde with a decent frothy white head. The aroma is sweet, perfumed, vanilla, artificial, gummy candy, jammy red berry, victoria sponge cake, sugar and shortbread. The taste is dry, bitter, sharp, kinda harsh, artificial, soapy, vanilla, tannin, very drying, oaty, soapy, cheap perfume, touch milky and some red fruity with a weird, drying finish. Average body and carbonation. Aroma is what they were aiming for, but the taste is a hot mess. No thanks.
