Description
The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert was inspired by the earliest “craft breweries” of Europe: that first generation making beers in disused 19th century breweries with a pioneering spirit, unmoving passion and an almost avant-garde creativity. We relocated from America to the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire to make this dream a reality and haven’t looked back.
As a very small two-and-a-half person brewery, making world class beers and sharing them fresh with the public is about all we have time for. But who needs more than that?

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from Premier Hop. Pours clear russet with a creamy tan head. Lightly sweet with nice brown bread notes, subtle earthy bitterness, restrained Belgian yeast, a nip of candi sugar, dried berries. Light bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Pretty clean on the finish, more light earthy bitterness, toasted malts, hints of brown sugar. Highly drinkable.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 13/12/20 ... 2nd half just kicked off Citeh 3-0 B&HA. Light murky tones to an extremely dark mahogany brown pour with a well presented tan head ... you'd be tricked into thinking this is a stout ... off black almost. Nose is dried fruits, toffee, light spice, nutty, dates, light phenols, clove, yeast esters, nip of alcohol. Taste comprises figs, burnt caramel, brown sugars, fruit cake mix, light spice, trace of nana esters, dark malts. Medium bodied with bite, fine massaging carbonation - stellar mouthfeel, light warming booze at the curtain call. A top top draw Quad ... great balance, never to sweet, boosty but balanced with some dark malt qualities and bitterness.

Can from Park Fever, Hither Green. Brown pour with a beige head. Nose is burnt toffee, milk chocolate, cola, raisin, banana pudding. Ooh that's good. Taste is banana toffee, raisin, cinnamon, sweet tobacco. Sweet, warming finish. Reminds me of a Rochefort 8. Excellent stuff.

Can, picked up at the brewery. Glowing orange gold, with a light haze. Fine white head stays the course. Nose is big on the ripe stone fruit. Soggy peach and apricot. Notes of pineapple and fusty citrus. Cheeky nudge of coconut from the Sabro. Touch of hop spice. Smells great. Taste has a light sweetness on the lips, and gets pithy, and spicy, and a little bit of gnarly bitterness. Smooth and slightly slick on the palate. Fine carbonation. Lingering bitter spice to finish. Super tasty and really easy drinking. Drank this in about two minutes.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from All Good Beer. Pours clear amber-brown with a big, billowing frothy beige head. Medium sweet flavour, rich stewed berries, grapes, toffee, Belgian yeast, candy sugar, creme caramel. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, a little sticky sweet, more ripe and jammy berries, more toffee, rich bready malts. Solid.

Smells strong but taste smooth! Light smoke, lots of maltiness, caramel. Good stuff. Schwartz feel even.
