Can. Pours a very pale and clear gold with a medium white head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma has notes of sweet grains and a bit of a skunky notes. Flavor is a bit weak but sweet grain notes are present throughout.

From bottle. Pale yellow with a white head. Aroma is hay, grass and corn. Flavour is grainy, malty and bitter. Bitter grainy finish, not pleasant even very cold.

Not much to this beer. Flavors of corn and chemicals. Yellow. A light with slightly more body than most others.

Draft, Minneapolis. Had this after washing the taste of a Labatt's Blue out of my mouth, but it was only a slight improvement. Since this really is my father's beer (that and Hamm's), and because it has such a generic name, it's a little hard to approach without preconceptions. What I find is the usual pale American Standard color, not much head. I did get a hint of lager yeast taste, but not too much else. When we had to leave, I didn't really want to stay and finish this. Schell's keeps this going because of nostalgia and name recognition as this area's standard cheap beer, but they'd really do well to push more of their own brand (currently #4 on the "Best American Standards" list to your right).

Bottle. Golden color. Scent of sweet hops. Lots of carbonation. Sweeter than most beers of this style. After trying several other American standards and coming back to Grain Belt, it really is much better than everything else in this class. This beer has some good flavor if it is not ice cold as served at most bars. Seems to be best from a bottle. This beer is outstanding for the style, and is certainly better than Leinenkugel's. --- Beer merged from original tick of Premium on 03 Aug 2018 at 13:47 - Score: 3
