Cola brown pour with whisks of beige foam and a chocolate banana bread aroma. This smooth medium bodied brew delivers fruity notes (bananas and berries) dark chocolate (70% cacao) and mild roasted notes.
Very smooth and crushable, the ABV took me by surprise.

Kuninocho French Pilsner 5% 20 IBU A Copper gold with light beige foam that was gone in a blink. The aroma was earthy herbal hops. Medium bodied. Kind of muddled for a lager but ok. Tap @ Ibaraki bakuon

Kuni no Cho Grapefruit Wheat 5% 40 IBU Matte orange color with wispy off-white foam looks grapefruit juice like. The aroma is wheat and citrus while the medium bodied beer gives more pithy grapefruit than sweet citrus. Surprisingly bitter but ok. Tap at the brewery’s new taproom in Settsu-Tonda. Prices were 600/800¥, to go bottles 660¥275) a wide range of sake at even better prices.

Apparently, this was their limited brew for Ibaraki Bakuon 2023. Kuninocho Sio Saison Salt Grapefruit Saison 4.5% 20 ibu This is their Ibaraki Bakuon limited beer, it was quite a surprise. Mellow gold with bright white foam and a spicy white pepper aroma, the taste I has the salt, bitter pithy grapefruit and loads of saison (wheat?). Interesting and tasty brew.

Rainy weather had me feeling it was time to crack open my ESB to christen my Kuninocho glass I got on mercari for 300¥ Kuninocho Slow Time ESB 5% I’ve gotta say I’m glad that Kuninocho is stepping up their branding. Things look pretty slick lately. Ruddy reddish brown in color with a light beige fast-dissipating head of foam. Medium to light bodied with a mild toffee biscuit and tobacco leaf aroma. The taste is balanced black pepper, malty toffee and iced tea with a bit of a bitter edge. I’m enjoying it.

Kuninocho Koji Saison 7% 10 IBU Deep orange brown gold with dense off-white foam. Fruity banana and cloves it is an almost Weizen like aroma. The taste gives you that slightly boozy sake Koji vibe as does the aftertaste. Really enjoyable this hit the spot. Tap at the Uji beer fest.

One of the nicest looking labels I’ve seen from Kuninocho. Kuninocho Kura Wheat 5.5% Great rocky head of off-white foam on a matte dirty blonde brew. Big fruity aroma with a bit of stinky cheese (? Weird). The taste is banana and citrus with an aggressive raspy carbonation. Looks like a cool bottle and tastes promising but this just didn’t come together.

Kuninocho Yuzo Lemon 5% The aroma gives spicy wheat and zesty fresh Yuzu. The ingredients list wheat and Yuzu + Lemon peel. The beer is pretty full bodied with spicy cloves, wheat wheat and banana bread notes. The taste is a Weizen with yuzu. Quite tasty, the main negative was the full brass semi-opaque color.

At Bakuon. Kuni No Cho Double Black 11% BA Kijou Black. Deep brown verging on black with a nice savory aroma. With floral chocolate aroma. Medium to full bodied with lots of roasty smoke and charcoal flavors. Very much barrel forward. Very interesting. Ap 4 Ar 7-8 t 7-8 p 4 o 13-4
