Description
The brewing tradition in Helsinki is hundreds of years old. The latest chapter of this story began in 1995 on the island of Suomenlinna right outside of the city. It is here that a one man brewery was founded in the former jetty barracks. The brewery has grown to be home for a small group of dedicated professionals, all passionate about beer culture in Finland. Now Suomenlinna Brewery is one of the largest local breweries in town.

The rich history at this UNESCO world heritage site has been the inspiration for many new beers at Suomenlinna Brewery. Each beer and cider we brew has its own story to tell. When professional attitude and modern technology are combined, the end results are bold, honest, high quality drinks. Our special releases are a sign of our inspiration to create and to try new things.

When you drink a Suomenlinna beer or cider we hope you taste our commitment to quality and creativity. Come visit our brewery on the island of Suomenlinna, the pearl of the Helsinki archipelago. We hope you enjoy every sip. Kippis!

A copper beer with a dense, medium and slightly yellow head. Aroma is malty and bready, grass, some ryebread, overall impression of aroma is slightly aromatic. Taste of bread, some roastiness and butter, just barely enough of bitterness that is grassy. Light+ bodied, slightly harsh carbonation. Lager with the nicely noticed rye, quite nice.

Edit 01.02.2023. Can 500 ml, alc. 5.0%. Point 27 -> 32. A slightly cloudy, golden Pils with a weak and white head. Aroma is malty, notable hops, that are grassy and slightly herbal, not too much of sweetness, hint of honey. Taste is pure and strongly malty with balancing bitterness, grass and herbs, some butter, aftertaste is quite long. Light+, smooth body, nice carbonation. Pure and nicely smooth Pils with enough of bitterness, quite nice.

50 cl bottle (4,7%) @ home, BBE 09/2013
Aroma is somewhat sweet with lots of grainy malt. Flavour is somewhat sweet and rather malty with grain and hints of nuts. Starchy feeling here. Quite bulky to be a microbrewery beer. And failed to pair with my salad with smoked salmon.

It seems that these rye lagers are still not my cup of tea.
