Description
Islay Ales was founded by Paul Hathaway, Paul Capper and Walter Schobert in 2004. The brewery has a 4 barrel brewing plant that produces all their ales in cask and bottle-conditioned format; therefore, the beers are never pasteurised or filtered.

In July 2018 Donald MacKenzie and Mackay Smith - ''The Islay Boys'' - took over the brewery with one goal in mind: to reconquer the hearts and minds - and tastebuds! - of the good people of Islay, and of course the many visitors to the island, by brewing straightforward, taste-upfront beers. We rely on experience, taste and aroma to guide our brewing process.

Bottle, Rainhall Drinks, Barnoldswick. There’s a really decent brew struggling to make its presence felt here, but it somehow falls short. It started out promisingly with some nice hoppage mingling with caramel malt to give quite a pleasant and inviting aroma. The flavour was more caramel malts and a vague slightly plasticy fruitiness; the hops aren’t given a chance to shine through, seeming smothered. Its not terrible by any stretch, and extra maeks for coming from Islay. I’m sure this would taste much better if it was drained in the 19th hole of the Machrie with a tasty malt by its side. When that scenario unfolds (asI hope it will one day) I will endeavour to re rate !
