Description
The Ottenbräu brewery was first mentioned in a document in 1609. But the oldest lager cellar even dates back to the 13th century. The brewery has been owned by the Neumaier family since 1846. Currently Robert Neumaier is the owner of this one-man business. So he is the one who shows visitors around, who cleans the tanks, cleans the floor, brews the beer and even delivers it himself twice a week. The brewery and the beers are ''Zwergenfrei'' (free of gnomes) which is of course a tease towards the nearby big Kuchlbauer brewery and their obsession with gnomes.

Bottle. Clear amber-golden color with small white head. Aroma is caramel malts, herbal hops, nutty, touch of butter. Taste is nutty, caramel, herbal, a bit mineralic, quite dry finish. Medium carbonation. Quite moreish, the butter in the aroma fits my palate. Good!

Beautiful amber with no head. Aroma is some gummy bears with lots of bready malt some fine grassy hops but not that much. Taste is sweet malt with slight alcoholic bitterness. Finish is gummy bears again and some alcohol. Medium easy to drink. Quite full bodied. Nice.

(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Mildly toasted malty aroma with a tinge of chestnut, caramel and bready notes. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Dark malt character with mildly toasted accents, caramel and discreetly nutty notes; quite rounded sweet-bitter, slightly toast-malty and hoppy finish. Balanced and decent stuff without any extremes. 16.IX.15

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, deep golden colour with a firm and medium-sized, slightly off-white foamy head. Bready malty aroma with notes of caramel, honey and a mildly herbal hoppy background. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a well-matured carbonation. Bready cara-malty base with a whiff of honey, spicy notes of anise and a discreet but still balanced herbal hoppy backbone; sweet and slightly hop bitter finish with caramel and mildly spicy notes in the aftertaste. Balanced and good. 17.VI.16

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for sharing. The beer is caramelly and sweetish. Nice but a bit sugary sweetish with not much bitterness. Easy to drink, fruity with mild aroma, round and smooth. Nice fresh in the aftertaste, but the sweetish aroma dominates the picture.

Euro2-Flasche: Copper coloured, clear, medium-sized loose off-white head; caramel, dark malt and Sauerteig-Roggenbrot in the nose, hops barely detectable; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, pretty light bodied for a beer of 6.0%; drier and more bitter nutty and malty finish. Ottenbräu is good…
