Draught at Power Beer Fest, 5/14/22. Clear, beeswax yellow, small, white head, minimal retention. Candle wax, heavy white pepper, grainy biscuit and light alcohol with strong, fruity esters of peach and apple. Super phenolic with mega clove-pepper and complete attenuation leaving little/no malt depth/comfort. Just all yeast activity here and it's not particularly enjoyable yeast character, either. Rose hips certainly don't help things, adding more astringent bitterness.

Pours a hazy orange from a can. Big melange aroma, lots of varied fruit, some faint onion. Similar flavor, a little sweet. Good beer.

Exhibit A Briefcase Porter 5.4% This is a lovely cola black with ruby highlights and tan foam. Roasty, cocoa and soft oats in the aroma. Medium to full in body with a bit of a dryness in the finish. The taste matches the aroma but adds dark bitter chocolate to the roasty elements. Solid Porter.

16 oz. Aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, dark bread, wet stone. Pours very dark brown to black with a one finger beige head with decent retention. Taste is moderately sweet with relatively high bitterness for style, finishing dry. Nice velvety mouthfeel, but maybe a tad thin. Lovely coffee and chocolaty flavors.

16 oz. Aroma is a little grassy, floral, bready. Pours lightly hazy golden with a half finger off-white foam with decent retention. Taste is lightly sweet with light bitterness, finishing dry. Crisp, clean and refreshing. One of those rare Kolschs that completely rise above normalcy and enter the realm of greatness.
