Bottle at home. Aroma of yeast, malt, honey, fruity notes, some ripe citrus, coriander, spicy notes, some vegetables. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Body is medium, mouthfeel a bit sticky. Below average spicy-yeasty Belgian Blond Ale, they went overboard with the sweetness.

Bottle at home. Aroma of yeast, fruits, citrus, boiled vegetables. Flavour is moderate sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Body is medium, carbonation is way too high. Did not enjoy, the nasty vegetable element in the aroma ruined it for me.

Bottle at home. Aroma of sourish wheat, citrus, yeast, coriander, some further spicy notes. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and lightly sour. Light bittersweet finish. Body is light, could use more carbo. Acceptable but underwhelming.

Bottle at home. Aroma is peppery yeast, pale malt, some spicy and floral notes with an unwelcome touch of boiled vegetables. Flavour is light sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium with a bit annoying carbonation. Not good, could have used a more outspoken character and less brewing flaws.

Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Aroma is biscuity malt, hop, touch of pine resin, light caramel, ripe citrus. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Malty but drinkable IPA-ish beer.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, liquorice, coffee, some smoke, touch of ash, with some mild fruity hoppy notes. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and above medium roasty hoppy bitter. Body is medium. Strong roast and quite bitter, liquorice with dark chocolate and coffee, could have used a bit fuller body. I am pleasantly surprised by this Imperial Stout since most of the beers I’ve had from this brewery to date have been lame to mediocre. Hopefully, a sign that they’re improving.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is soft wheat malt, banana, spicy yeast, ripe-ish candied fruity notes with citrus. Moderate sweet flavour with a little bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with slightly fizzy carbonation. Lacks the depth and smoothness of an actual German Hefe, but this is fairly enjoyable.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Ugly murky looking swamp water. Aroma is malt, hops, dishwater, caramel, something akin to peat, and off-flavours I can’t even identify. Flavour is decent with a moderate sweetness and moderate to medium bitter finish. Body is medium. For me, New England IPA is defined by refinement and an exquisite dank fruity hoppiness. This has none of those qualities. In fact, this brew is messy and unsavory. Way too ambitious for two relatively new breweries. Sad to say it, but this just has way too many flavours that shouldn’t be there.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt, oak, liquorice, dark fruits, some chocolate, touch of Bourbon and tobacco. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium, a bit thinnish for the aroma. Decent Impie with notes of oak aging, lacking some body and complexity. Enjoyable, yet unrefined.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 3 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 4
Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. Aroma is bready malt, grain, herbal-ish, yeast, with notes of rotten fruits and some other less distinct sweaty off-flavours. Flavour is light sweet and light to moderate bitter. Body is modest with a way too heavy carbonation. I’m not much of a fan of Kölsch in general, but at least the classic examples are clean beers, this is a bit of a mess.
