Deep amber/purple color, with the trademark, massive Heavyweight head - musty, tart aroma, with hints of overripe fruit, a touch of anise - flavor is both mildly sour and spice up front - chalky mouthfeel - very faint sweetness comes late, with some raisin and prune, finally closing with a creamy, cocoa and lactose-like flavor, almost like hot chocolate - quite an original offering, but I expect no less from these guys.

750ml-pours a light tan. BIG foamy head which holds up well while slowly reducing for quite a while. Color is a cloudy deep golden. Aroma is nice and crisp with a creamy, malty taste and a nice bite. Good level of carbonation. A very nice taste.

12 oz bottle-Pours a black as midnight with no moon black. Holding the pint glass up to the light I still can’t detect if it’s clear or cloudy, but, holding up to the bright daylight it appears to bea clear black. Nice head, reduces to a thin creamy head that works along the side of the glass. Aroma is anise, coffee. Good taste, although not my idea of a regular repeat for my taste. You can feel the alcohol tingle as it works through the mouth. Smooth with a bite.

An unclear orange beer with a huge head. The aroma is sweet spicy - with coriander standing out. The flavor is sweet with notes of peaches, overripe oranges, and spices - coriander being most dominant. The best Biere de Garde I’ve ever had.

12 oz bottle-pours a thick creamy tan head. Color is a deep rich hazy amber. Aroma-light malty, hoppy. Decent carbonation. Nice taste, a malty,bitter aftertaste.

Poured a rich caramel head, sounds like fizzies, head reduced fairly quickly to almost zero. Color is a nice hazy amber. Aroma is OK, I still haven’t gotten the hang of identifying a lot of specifics. Taste is smokey/malty with a mild to low carbonation. Good beer, interesting, just not my style.

An unclear dark orange beer. The aroma is of peach and spices - of which coriander stands out. The flavor is very spicy, but also with notes of peaches and caramel, leading to an end where the hops dries out the mouth.

Old Salty 2004. 12 oz bottle, pours a nicely carbonated head that reduces to a thin creamy head. Color is a dark caramel/amber and clear body. Rich deep taste and yes lots of malt. Just not my preference but I would enjoy coming across this again sometime.

12 oz bottle, poured a dark caramel color with cloudy body. Creamy textured head, color was tan/creamy. Taste is rich and sweet. We bought this ale after having an enjoyable ’tour’ of the brewery with the highlight being the owner/brewer Tom chatting about items we asked about and unique features of Heavyweight.
