Seriously cool - I’m very pleased with this beer as just about the only American beer I’ve had to attempt to take on Schlenkerla rauchbier urbock -not to mention it compares favorably. It was a foamer and that worried me, but I detected no signs of bacteria. Very cloudy amber color, lots of suspended yeast. Campfire/wood smoke and smoked meat is predominant, layers of melanoidiny munich malts provide a caramelly cookieish base. Very good stuff.

On tap at Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn. Dark chestnut brown; roasty, toasty notes in the aroma. Creamy body. Coffeeish and long, with a depth of malt flavours.

Old salty. Come on now, try to come up with something that at least sounds appetizing. My mind swims with thoughts of vile excreta whenever I come across this name. A factor that has kept me from trying this beer until now. +++ The salt comes in 12 oz brown bottle. The pour is an opaque red-brown color with a minimal tan head. The scent is orange and sweet malt. The flavor is sharp and sweet with a flavor of nectarine. Overall a very smooth drinking barleywine. Good but not truly noteworthy in what has become a crowded field. But good god get a better name.

Dark black opaque beer with a dark moka head. Aroma of cold coffee, and porto with light hops. Warm alcohol and sweet chocolate hits the tongue in first attack, follow with lactic tartness, nuts, and anda nice hops finish, with choclate remaining. Nice bodied porter whihc was from the Maibockaddict himself. Thanks Dave.

The last wort runnings of the Perkuno’s Hammer produces something that tastes strikingly like a watered-down version of it - quite chocolatey and roasty, with medium body at first, but everything falls apart in the finish - it becomes thin and watery, and a bitterness comes in that balances with the sweet chocolate flavors and first, but then totally overpowers everything - this doesn’t warrant its special, otop status.

AOBF 04. Bottle. Deep honey-yellow hue, with some pale golds in there, very thick and viscous looking. Large foamy white head and tons of lacing. Aroma is mostly dry of yeast and spicy, but there is a subtle sweetness of honey, cream and wet hay. Pretty well melded together. Flavor is lightly syrupy, sweet and chewy. Dries out in the middle with some spicy hops (I’d guess tettnangs). The finish is not very big, more dry hops and yeast, but still some residual sweetness turning to almost a caramelized-peachiness, and a good fluffy mouthfeel. Medium-full bodied and no thinning detected. Good stuff, and I’m glad I tried it.

AOBF 04 draught. Pours a deep brown with a lovely hickory/red tinge to it. Good yellow flecked off-white head and very hazy. Aroma has plenty of light raspberries in it, a huge dose of yeast and some drier malt. Flavor immediately is moderately astringent stemming from a dry fruit flavor (blueberries, raspberries, cherries). The yeast makes a big appearance and as the beer begins to finish, a candi-like sugar flavor makes an entrance. Very interesting beer. It starts out dry and waxes sweet. Very yeasty, doughy finish. Body is only medium, touch of wateriness. Some earthy/root-like spiciness in there as well. Bizarre, it certainly is. Take away the overly astringent flavors and I'd be sold.

The aroma is powerful of coriander and black pepper. The color is an unclear orange and it has a fine disappearing head. The flavor is rather sweet with notes of alcohol, coriander, lemon, and acidity that runs over the tongue.

An unclear red-orange beer with a small collapsing head. The aroma is of herbs and spices. The flavor is acidic with notes of rosemarry and oranges on a sweet background. The acidity stays on the tongue.
