Description
Ruddles Brewery was a brewery in Rutland, England. The brand is now owned by Greene King who still brew beers under the Ruddles name in Suffolk, although the current recipes are not those used at the original brewery.

Ruddles became owned by Watneys in 1986, and then Grolsch in 1992, it was sold to Morland & Co in 1997. Morlands moved production to Abingdon only for that site to be closed by Greene King which took over Morlands in 2000.

There is a separate entry for the pre 1986 independent Ruddles.

Deep clear amber with a tall off-white head. Aroma is lightly malt and citrus hops. Subtle and smooth. Flavor is similar with earth, citrus, and light grains. A more relaxed and subtle brew. Easy going and enjoyable but not memorable.

Aroma is an intense soury and hoppy affair hinting towards marijuana. Has a nice brown body with modest head. Flavour is very soft malt hints and little else. Kind of weak & watery mouthfeel. It looks and smells good but doesn’t deliver. All surface, no substance!

Keg at the Dolphin, High Wycombe. Amber with a moderate white head and a light sparkle. Yes there’s some caramel but there’s a decent amount of fruitiness too. Surprising amount of flavour and a reasonable mouthfeel. Don’t think I’d have guessed this was a GK keg beer- frankly it tastes better than when I’ve had it on cask. Not bad.

Cask @ Bankers Draft, Bedford. Thin golden brown with white foamy head. Smells sulphurous and not particularly enticing. Slightly soapy astringent bitter taste. Reasonable bitter aftertaste. It came free with my curry, what can I say. I left most of it.

On tap at the newly refurbished Melville Bar. Appearance - honey with a decent head. Nose - malt and honey Taste - more of the same. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a reasonably clean finish. Overall - not unpleasant but neither does it do anything.
