Description
The brewery was founded in 1867 as the Dampfbrauerei Carl Kuntze. Later the name was changed into "Brauerei Neunspringe" on an old field name which in turn is derived from nine springs in the source area of the Hahle, from which the brewery draws its spring water. The brewery survived the war and stayed in the hand of the Kuntze family. But in 1953 the brewery was confiscated and transferred to a state-owned company, a situation that lasted till the end of the GDR. After a trust agency period by the Treuhandanstalt, the company became in a private limited company (GmbH) again in 1994.

(33cl bottle) Clear, pale golden colour with a big and loose foamy white head. Light-sweet and slightly doughy pale malty nose with grassy hops. Light-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Pale malty taste, slightly doughy with a grassy hoppy blend; moderately dry and bitter, slightly grassy hoppy finish. Easy-going and inoffensive Pils, just a tad boring (20.VIII.09).

Sehr gut! Test vom 22.9.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,11,12,12,7,12 - 11,40

Thin beige head appears briefly, then subsides into a thin ring. Nearly opaque dark black body, only admits some light at edges. Earthy sugary bready straw and caramel aroma with papery notes. Sweet roasty caramel licorice taste with straw notes. Faint bitterness in the aftertaste, and the roastiness becomes more pronounced. Sugary roastiness lingers. No real resistance in this beer; it’s kind of like a light porter wort. Not bad, though. (0.33l bottle from Ernst Bauer brewery outlet, Leipzig.)
