180 ml cup. Clear and oclorless. Nose is rice and koji, kimoto funk, apple, pear, light vanilla. Bright and spicy flavor, acidity, rich rice, lightly sweet. Apple and citrus. Clean finish with a spicy after taste. Great value for the price--a good cup choice at about ¥250.

Bottle pour at Asano. Light, sour ume, slightly sweet, great rich oily body. Elegant and tart, not much sake flavor but lovely plums.

720 ml bottle from Seijo Ishii. Clear, viscous. Rich, aged, kimoto nose, some vanilla, a bit of oxidation, smooth and rounded. Flavor is deep and rich, lots of umami, soem acid, including lactic, and bit of stone and citrus. Tasty stuff. Full body. Aged 3 years I hear. Well done, old school rich sake.

300ml bottle from Isetan. Lightly funky nose, acid, lactic, rice. Clear, water-looking. Flavor is citrus, light funk, minerals, some vanilla. A bit watery, definitely light and crisp. It fits the name (Sokai=light and refreshing), but a bit too light for me--would be better with more heft, especially in the winter. Tasty, though.

Ordered first after my initial sakevset to try the style. The pour look like sauvignon blanc with rich nose of rice and peach. The taste is crisp of melons, peaches, rice, vanilla and some alcohol flavor but pleasant.

Billed as classic sake on my menu, however not sure why 2 from same brewery included in this set. Anyways this was more boring then others, pours slight yellow tinged like Pinot grigio. Very faint nose of rice and melon. Tastes of melon, rice, white wine, alcohol, and floral finish. Ok

Glass 2 of the special set at sakagura. Pours dim yellow kinda like pee but that’s where urine comparisons end. Nose of sweet candied plums. Tastes of plums, sweet sugar, vanilla, wood, rice, and floral. Hint of alcohol on finish and a touch sticky. A desert sake for sure
