Description
Hilden Brewing Company was established by Ann and Seamus Scullion in 1981 in the courtyard of Hilden House the former home of the Barbour linen barons. Here the Scullions reintroduced into Ireland the tradition of a local brewery making beers of distinctive character and taste. Hilden is now the oldest independent brewery on the island of Ireland. The brewery is now managed by Seamus and Ann’s son Owen who is a qualified and full time brewer.

Our craft beer takes a little bit longer to brew than others. Selecting the finest ingredients and handcrafting the traditional process demands patience. But 35 years? That’s how long we’ve been making our full flavoured beers, improving and perfecting them year after year. It makes us the oldest independent brewery in Ireland and those who drink our beer agree it’s been time well spent.

Bottle at EBF08. Cloudy very pale yellow colour. OK hop aroma. The flavour is malty and dusty with some sweet hoppiness and a little citrus.

Cask at EBF 2008, on Saturday September 13.Labeled 4.2% ABV.Clear dark brown to black color, small tan head. Sweet, salty, mineral taste. Roasted and chocolate aftertaste. Malty and some hich alcohol scent. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

From gravity cask. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Light breadish and towards slight acidic roated malty base flavour. Smooth and slight bitter finish. Nice and crips one.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear to slight cloudy yellow with a fully diminished. Light tobacco to spiced hoppy aroma. Mild floral flavour with with alight citrusy flavour and more of the same mild tobacco note. Bitter and slight spiced finish.

50 cL bottle. Pours yellow and pale yellow with a fully gone head. Mild hoppy and light fruity aroma. Citrusy hops flavour with a mild malt note. Light and smooth. Quite refreshing. Bitter and dry finish yet stays light.
