Description
Hilden Brewing Company was established by Ann and Seamus Scullion in 1981 in the courtyard of Hilden House the former home of the Barbour linen barons. Here the Scullions reintroduced into Ireland the tradition of a local brewery making beers of distinctive character and taste. Hilden is now the oldest independent brewery on the island of Ireland. The brewery is now managed by Seamus and Ann’s son Owen who is a qualified and full time brewer.

Our craft beer takes a little bit longer to brew than others. Selecting the finest ingredients and handcrafting the traditional process demands patience. But 35 years? That’s how long we’ve been making our full flavoured beers, improving and perfecting them year after year. It makes us the oldest independent brewery in Ireland and those who drink our beer agree it’s been time well spent.

Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 28/03/21. Clear orange golden with an off white cap. Nose is orange peel, grass, toasted malts, sweet tropical fruit esters. Taste comprises orange peel, melon, light floral notes, grass, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow hop bitterness. Ok easy drinker.

31/3/2021. Can sample courtesy of SHIG cheers. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a bubbly white head. Aroma of melon, orange, citrus, grass. Medium sweetness and light earthy bitterness. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Not bad.

Can: Poured a hazy orange with a frothy cream white head. Aroma is hops, a bit butterscotch, malts. Taste is light hops, grain, crispy.

Beer52 CyberFest 5. Rocky white head on a clear amber body. Butterscotch aroma. Medium bodied, smooth. Pine, butterscotch, bitter & light malt tastes.

@home poured into a pint glass. Almost clear pale amber colour, tall frothy white head, dissipating slowly, heavy lacing. Aroma sweet malt, grain, wort bit roasty. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, bit roast, grain, caramel, earthy notes. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, malty sweetbitter aftertaste, some roast, grain, very nice.

Bottle from KWM. Appearance - cloudy amber/brown. Big white head. Nose - butterscotch, unfortunately. Then a bit of grain bag going on! Taste - burnt toffee, hobnob, light metallic, generally cleaner than the nose. Palate - light to medium bodied, roasty middle and finish. Overall - the sum of the parts is better than the components, ok!

Bottle from KWM Wines. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich caramel, toffee, malt, fruits and hops. Sweet caramel finish.
