Description
Legend Brewing Company is a commercial microbrewery providing true premium beers to many of the best pubs and restaurants in Richmond and other areas of Virginia since January, 1994. Our mission is to bring to our customers the finest and freshest brews as flavorful alternatives to mass-marketed mainstream products. We're one of the few craft breweries in this region producing both lagers and ales, which require different yeasts and maturation conditions. All Legend beers are unpasteurized and made from only two-row and specialty barley malt, hops, water and yeast.

Late 2007 Batch:
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, prunes, plums, raisins and grapes. Full-bodied; Strong maltiness up front with a potent sweetness and strong alcoholic finish. Aftertaste stays strong with whiskey, oak, vanilla and prunes very noticeable. Overall, a good barleywine, a bit strong and a harsh finish - but with a new batch, it’s what you’d expect! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 25-December-2007.

2007 VIntage Deep ruby-brown beer, no head left. Sweet, lots of alcohol & fusels in the nose, raisins and madeira. Sweet-ish taste, nutbread, blue cheese, cardemoms, dry, and generally a lot of (dark) malts. Pretty complex. Very full bodied, oily & slick to viscous. Excellent barley wine, obviously of an excellent vintage. Many thanks to the American generous donator!

Pronounced aroma of cocoa and chocolate syrup. Opaque black pour with a thick dark brown head. Thinnish mouthfeel, nice taste of mocha. There are some smoke and currant notes at midpalate, but they don’t seem to be well blended. Charred oak and grass finish. NIce flavors, poor balance.

22 oz. bottle. Pours golden with a thick creamy head and excellent lacing. Creamy taste, with a subtle hoppiness, but also very clean tasting. Nice effort.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown. Cloudy dark amber brown body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet banana aroma with some clove, light spice and molassas. Sweet banana with heavy spice, huge clove presense, some light molassas. Medium body with heavy spice lending some harshness.

22 oz bottle. Pours a pretty deep brown amber color. Head is pretty thick. Overall the beer is extremely sweet in both aroma and flavor. It ends up being a great desert beer that I find to be one of the best Fall seasonals I’ve had this year.

Bouquet of cherry, apple, hops, and subdued malt. Red amber color, clear, with a relatively thick tan head. Tastes of wood and berries, a bit of barley. Excellent hop finish. Everything goes together very well. Awesome!

Nice slightly hazy golden coloured body with a very large white head. Tons of bubbles rise from the bottom - and a very nice unfiltered look to this one! Aroma of fresh wheat, yeast, lemons, bananas, coriander seed and some spice. Medium-bodied; Spicey flavour up front with some good wheat and yeast characteristics following soon behind. Aftertaste shows more of the wheat, some coriander seed and a very pleasant banana sweetness. Overall, a good beer - a nice wheat to have in the summertime and one to definitely sample if you can find it in or around Virginia. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, Virginia on 17-September-2007.

Draft at Capital Ale House, Innsbrook. I must say that this was a touch better than their regular brown ale. The beer was Redish-Brown in color. The aromas were nutty, with caramel and a touch of hops (though not too much). It was a bit thicker and creamier than the regular version.
