Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

Thanks to cmaruschak for sharing. The beer is a clear dark orange color with a medium ivory colored head with decent retention. Patchy lacing. Citrusy hops aroma that also has a good amount of sugary sweet malt. Rich and smooth body with a nice citrus and hops flavor. Strong malt base as well, plus some pine notes. The finish is hoppy at first with a lingering aftertaste of sweet malt and spices. Really good, but honestly did not impress me as much as the India Pelican Ale.

Thanks to cmaruschak for sharing. The beer is a dark amber color with a medium foamy off-white head with good retention. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mildly malty with a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture. The flavor is more hoppy than expected, along with malt and chocolate. The finish is dry and hoppy with a bit of a fruity aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.

Thanks to cmaruschak for sharing. Clear brownish-orange color with a thin off-white head that disappears pretty quickly. Thin coating of lace on the glass. Toasted malt aroma with a little bit of sweet fruit. Medium, smooth body with a malty flavor. Touches of hops and fruit as well. The flavors don’t stay firm for very long though. The finish shows a little more hoppiness. Overall this beer doesn’t have the legs I was expecting but it is still an easy to drink Scottish Ale.

2005 bottle. Cloudy dark amber. Heavy caramel, with rich earth to it. Light caramel and earth character, but the body is big and it’s surprisingly boozy. At times this could pass for a barley wine, yet does not have any forcefulness of character.

Large, white head atop a clear amber body. Pleasant, if not somewhat subdued, nose of pine, resin, grapefruit and flowers. The flavor only hints at malt sweetness, and is dominated by bitterness. The taste is full of floral hops, soap, grapefruit. Medium body with a sticky texture. Fizzy carbonation. Long finish that is moderately acidic.

On tap at Pelican Pub and Brewery, Pacific City, OR. Black colour with tan head. Choccy malt aroma. Smooth in mouth, quite grainy/powdery on finish with lots of coffee. Dark choc, but powdery. Not bad, intense powdery choc finish.

On tap at Pelican Pub and Brewery, Pacific City, OR. Gold with thin white head. This doesn’t taste quite right. Not fully brewed out or not ready. Muddled alcohol and earthy citrus. Could be better.

On tap at Pelican Pub and Brewery, Pacific City, OR. Deep copper with off white head. Malty aroma. Odd flavour in here. Some odd herb. Some choc. Malty in mouth. The herb/spice isn’t nice though.

On tap at Pelican Pub and Brewery, Pacific City, OR. Deep gold with thin white head. Lots of hop on aroma. Quite perfumed. Quite harsh hop. Harsh Cascade hop aroma. Bit of grapefruit. Moderate malts to give it some backbone and then strong hop finish that verges on the sharp. Very drying on the palate.
