Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

Samples @ SBWF 2011. Superb barley wine! The aroma has got notes of vanilla, raisin, salt and alcohol. The flavor has got notes of mint chocolate, vanilla and wood. Creamy, soft texture. This is a massive beer in all aspects. Surprisingly easy to drink, yet very complex.

22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, overripe fruits, brown sugar, some floral hops, alcohol and sort of an off vegetal, absinthey quality - but not dominating. Flavour is quite rich and hot, with floral notes, licorice / absinthe notes, coconut, and dark candied fruits. Alcohol is well-concealed, though you know it's there. Might do with some aging, as some of the flavours don't mesh so well - still, quite enjoyable.

A golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a chalky mineral malt, very much like a pils. In mouth, a biscuitty caramel malt with faint herbal German hops, medium bodied. Boring. On tap at Oregon Brewer’s Fest, July 31 2011.

Bomber. Pours a light golden orange aromas are lovely with lots of citrus (grapefruit and a little lemon). Flavor is super clean with a very nice hops kick. The malt is perfectly balanced against the almost stinging hops presence.
