Description
Casa Agria Specialty Ales is a small brewery focusing on mixed fermentation farmhouse style ales and barrel aged wild ales in Ventura County, California. Like much of California, Ventura County agriculture and farming has played a vital role in the development of the communities here throughout time. The mild climate and rich soil allows for several harvests throughout the year making it one of the most valuable resources here. For these reasons the farmhouse style is a perfect style to refresh during a warm dry winter and a mild summer day alike from one harvest to the next. Further influence is found in the food ingredients and diverse cultural traditions of the people who shaped the California of today.

750 ml bottle. Thanks, snuffy. The beer is a somewhat brownish magenta color. Rather light in color. Little to no head. Fresh, juicy raspberry aroma. Fairly jammy. Mild funk and moderate oak. Just a tiny hit of cheesiness. Nice little bit of complexity underneath the berries. Medium to moderate acidity. Really not too tart for a raspberry sour. Mild oak in the taste, light bitterness in the finish. A bit more cheesy funk. Light feel. Nice big jammy raspberry with medium pucker. Low carbonation. Very tasty. As good as it is, it doesn’t stand out relative to other raspberry sours as much as some Casa beers in their respective sub-styles - I guess that’s not really a strong complaint, though.

750 ml bottle. So, I just added this beer. I realize the description has punctuation mistakes and sounds kinda odd, but that’s exactly what is printed on the label. It’s a great looking label, otherwise. Anywho, the beer is a light tannish orangey color tinged with just a hint of red. Smallish white head, sticks around for a bit. The aroma has a nice blend of plum, golden sour flavors and oak. The fruit is moderately juicy, slightly underripe plums with some skin in there. Some lemon and a mild tropical flavor. Lacto-forward sourness, some tingly acidity at the edges. Mild to medium oakiness. You can feel the foeder but it doesn’t take over. A little more lacto-ish sourness in the taste but not too puckery or acidic. A little more punch from the fruit would be appreciated, but it’s present and pleasant, just doesn’t quite take center stage as much as I’d prefer. Dry finish with a touch of bitterness as the oak picks up. A little bit of body from the fruit but quite light really. Very nice beer. I just would have preferred some more juicy sweet and sour fruitiness. The golden sour base is very good, once again. Casa Agria really deserves more acclaim.
