Shared by BDR. Bitter chocolate and malt aroma. Black in color and little carbonation. Flavor is bitter, almost charred with burnt popcorn, chocolate, and malt. No hop presence, which is fine for the style.

tap at the brewpub - I had this one immediately following their regular chocolate stout. It is of course similar, but is certainly a more robust version with a heavier roast malt aroma and a big roast malt flavor with some good dark chocolate notes. It’s full bodied with some solid bitterness to it. It’s simply a very good brew and in my opinion better than the ratings here. Maybe it’s losing something in the bottling.

tap at the brewpub - Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. It has the expected roast malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. There’s a good stout flavor though the chocolate that the name indicates is very mild. It’s medium bodied, well balanced, and finishes somewhat dry.

tap at the brewpub - Pours brown with a good roast malt aroma. The flavor is of roast malt with some smokiness that adds a nice touch. Medium bodied and lightly hopped, it’s an easy drinking and rather tasty brew.

tap at the brewpub - Pours red (duh) with a thin, light tan head. It has an aroma that’s mostly lightly roasted caramel malt. The flavor is mainly caramel malt as well though it has a decent hops bite. Still, the commercial description saying this is their "hoppiest specialty ale" is kind of puzzling. The hops isn’t strong. Anyway, it’s a very straightforward red and quite quaffable.

Dark brown, nearly black pour, with a soapy, lasting head - aroma of caramelized sugars, charred wood, cocoa, some cream/vanilla - creamy mouthfeel - kind of bitter, and almost peppery up front, followed by notes of tobacco and coffee bean - sweetness arrives later in the form of caramel and sweet cream - hazelnut, chocolate, burnt sugars, light blueberry hints - warm alcohol and spiciness develops in the finish - a lot of charred leaf and vegetable qualities throughout that become a little off-putting - alright.

I ignored the poor ratings and bought this anyway, because I need to try any smoked I haven’t had before - I’m pretty glad I did - copper/orange pour, with a faint ring of lace - the smoke is moderate in the aroma, with notes of caramel, and light, lagered fruitiness - the smoke is a little less prominent in the flavor, as some crisp hoppiness and some light bready/grainy notes take the lead - a little sweet, but it doesn’t interfere with the hop bitterness and light wood/smoke - a subtle and light beer - this will become a staple for me when summer comes.

Bottle. This IPA delivers on its promises of an intense floral aroma and a long, hoppy finish. Medium amber pour with a small, slightly off-white head. Huge floral aroma with notes of toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. Medium body and watery texture. Long, thick, sticky floral finish.
