Pour is a black with a large brown head. Aroma is a winner with a large amount of dark chocolate with a touch of coffee and caramel. Flavor is not as big as the aroma but you get more of the coffee in the taste. There is still some dark chocolate there but it is slightly watery and that really lessens the rateing after the wonderful aroma. Still this is pretty decent and one of the best from this brewer.

12oz bottle courtesy of Degarth. Thanks buddy. The pour is rather striking with clear copper body and slightly frothy yet slightly creamy tan head and cobweb lacing. The initial drag of aroma starts with pine and grassiness and then becomes tart grapefruit. Between the hop notes is a stream of sweet maltiness. The taste doesn’t seem to have pine hops initially but rather grapefruit hop bitterness bordering on wet/green hop leafs. Midway a pine hop bitterness becomes more and more apparent until it becomes the strongest flavor component into the finish along with lightly roasted malts and mild malt sweetness. Very nice tasting IPA but the aroma is a bit too subtle keeping it from being a great IPA to me.

Deep amber coloured body with a ruby and orange tint and a nice tan head. Aroma of fresh hops (dry hopped it seems), malt, caramel and of course, a small dash of smoked peat. Light-bodied; Strong smokey flavour up front fading to a light malt backbone and covered up by a small blanket of hops. Aftertaste shows very little with some alcohol mixed in with the aforementioned. Overall, nothing too exciting, and simply another smoked disappointment. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 30-January-2008.

Chocolate milk hints at the lid pop. I was expecting a yellow lager! Nice dark pour but not as dark as most schwartz, I was thinking this was an american dark lager. Good roasty linger on the center of the tongue. On the stronger side though as far as taste goes. Not as oppressive as Rogue Black Brutal 2007 . Krušovice Černe or Shiner 97 are more enjoyable. Overall a decent dark beer with a burned wet campfire wood finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body ~85% opaque with a nice dense tan head. Aroma of very smoked malt, completely surprising since no one mentions it! Peat, malt, nuts and a bit of chocolate are noticeable - but more smoked essences noticeable than anything else. Medium-bodied; Lactic taste up front with some good milk coming through in the taste with a bit of pale sugars and some pleasant malt. Chocolate shows in the aftertaste with some nuts and peat also coming through - very mild though. Overall, an interesting beer - the aroma is completely smoked, but the taste is very mild and doesn’t show much at all. Overall, a decent beer - but nothing great. Not worth trying again, but perhaps if you can’t find this regularly - it’s worth a try. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 10-January-2008.

Nice deep amber coloured body with an orange tint and a very thin tan head. Aroma of grapefruity & earthy hops with some caramel, malt and nuts. Medium-bodied; Sharp hops noticeable up front fading to a very strong malty and nutty flavour. Aftertaste shows more nuts, malt, sweet flavours, raisins and some odd cardboard. Overall, not a very good IPA - way too malty and nutty than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage Center in Albany, New York on 10-January-2008.

Bottle. Lightly fruity wheat malt aroma. Hazy yellow-orange color with moderate head. Wheat malt flavor dominates with a very light pomegranate taste just coming through. A nice light beer.

Clear light orange in color, with a creamy off-white head that sticks around a while. Light malt with a grapefruit hop aroma. Good body, long lasting bitter finish. Well balanced and well done.

The beer pours a color that is a mix of orange/red/amber, completely lucid with a small head. Aroma, for me, is a perfect mix without going over the top and annoying me. We got sweet and citrus hops and light tea aspects. Taste is a bit more aggressive, some bitterness more sharpness to the hops and less delicate sweet and citrus mix. Everything else is right around the norm.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Lukas, KCMO. Pour is a reddish copper color, slightyly hazy, with a decent sized (1 1/2 inch) head. Aroma is piney and citrus hops, not much else. Taste is maltier than I was expecting, and the malt had almost a smoky taste to it. Not unpleasant, but surprising. Beyond the malt, the grapefruit citrus and piney bitter finish feature. Not a great IPA, but a pretty interesting beer to try.
