Bottle from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. Pours black with a decent tan head. Aromas of toasted malt with a touch of chocolate. Medium body with slightly fizzy carbonation. There’s coffee bitter, burnt malt bitter, and chocolate? I am not getting chocolate, except as perhaps an after impression in the finish. A good drink, just not quite what I expected.

Bottle from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. Pours pretty black with not much head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, but not harsh or burnt. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is dark near toast malt, with something like coffee and oatmeal. Maybe a touch of milk chocolate. Seems a bit of a rauchbier. There’s a lot of flavor, a clean, though smoky, palate, and a finish that is smooth, but bitter enough to avoid yucky sweetness. It’s a really decent schwarzbier. Better than that.

Bottle from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. Reddish amber color with a decent beige head. Rather malty aroma. Roasted malt. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Flavor seems to be nutty chocolate. It’s hoppy, but the flavors sort of make the hop indecipherable. Finish is really like chocolate. With something else. Cinnamon? A very interesting and tasty ale. They certainly didn’t skimp on the ingredients. Daughter says it reminds of Mexican hot chocolate! And apple cider. How is this not seriously underrated?

Deep pitch black coloured body, fully opaque with a very thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate (of course) and a very interesting light pungent cranberry or currant aroma. Medium to full-bodied; Strong sweet malt flavours dominate with coffee and oatmeal tastes as well. Aftertaste has plenty of sweetness, chocolate (milk - ~40% cacao), lactic milk tastes and even a hint of the tart fruits. Overall, a nice complex beer for the style. This one almost reminds me of a lighter imperial, and I guess the alcohol shows it as well - but the sweetness and mildness of the initial taste make for a very interesting beer! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased on 09-May-2008 from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York sampled on 20-August-2008 at home in Washington, D.C.

Pours deep brown into a shaker. Mocha head with good retention leaves no lacing as it recedes. Chocolate and roasted coffee aromas. Thin and chocolaty with a lasting, smoky, slightly metallic hop finish.

Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma has plenty of bready malts and a touch of caramel. Flavor is again filled with bready malts and a little lingering chocolate. Nothing i need to have again but not as bad as some have said on here.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 30 July 2008) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity nose with citrus, caramel, orange peel and grapefruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of toffee, caramel and chocolate leading to a citrussy finish with orange, grapefruit and resin. Quite complex and rather nice one.
