Bang The Elephant Brewing
Microbrewery in Langley Mill, Derbyshire, England 🏴
Established in 2018
Description
Back in 2017 the idea was born, how do you fancy starting a brewery! and so it began with some homebrew knowledge we started bang the elephant brewing co, brewing on a grainfather brewing system for the first year, learning whatever we could and gaining feedback from freinds and family along the way, even double brews just to fill one cask to send off to beer festivals and start getting some real feedback.
In 2018 after some great feedback and some good success we decided to ramp up production and see what we could do! renting a 4bbl kit we quickly started to brew cask beer for sale to pubs in the surrounding area and then onto keg.
In 2019 we were presented with an amazing opportunity to move into the abstract jungle brewery and purchase it under the expert turorlidge of Mr Simon King the head brewer which brought us to where we are today.
We really do love what we do, thats why we always set out to make this our day job, we may have not reached that point yet, but its coming.

Cask at Crewe Dog. Pours a murky chocolate brown with minimal off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is mainly malts with some hints of rye. In the mouth it’s reasonable enough to start off with malts, nuts and rye plus hints of ginger and spice. However, after a while a harsh metallic bitterness comes in and turns the dominant flavour to cough mixture ! Not at all keen on this one.

Can from Eltham Wines. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is plum jam, red grape, toffee, strawberry Starburst. Taste is awash with rich jammy red & dark fruits, oak, spot of vanilla coming through in the back end. Rich jammy fruity aftertaste. More an imperial sour than a stout, very nice though.

Tap at Brewdog Canary wharf. A jet black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is nice piney hop, sap, tar, black malts, faint roast. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, toasted malts, mellow roast, sticky sap, tar, pine resin, burnt bark. Assertive burnt pine bitterness. Palate is semi sweet, resinous, moderate fine carbonation. Punchy but a little rough round the edges.

On tap at BrewDog Liverpool, pours black with a medium dark brown head. Aroma is full of deep roasted malt, intense piney hops, and a touch of orange peel. Flavour is rich and roasty, with big roasted malt, complemented by a strong piney hop blast, and lightly accentuated by orange peel. Balanced, cohesive, and assertive in both the hop and malt departments. Excellent.
