Description
Back in 2017 the idea was born, how do you fancy starting a brewery! and so it began with some homebrew knowledge we started bang the elephant brewing co, brewing on a grainfather brewing system for the first year, learning whatever we could and gaining feedback from freinds and family along the way, even double brews just to fill one cask to send off to beer festivals and start getting some real feedback.

In 2018 after some great feedback and some good success we decided to ramp up production and see what we could do! renting a 4bbl kit we quickly started to brew cask beer for sale to pubs in the surrounding area and then onto keg.

In 2019 we were presented with an amazing opportunity to move into the abstract jungle brewery and purchase it under the expert turorlidge of Mr Simon King the head brewer which brought us to where we are today.

We really do love what we do, thats why we always set out to make this our day job, we may have not reached that point yet, but its coming.

Shared third of a pint at the 31st Shrewsbury Beer Festival in St Mary's Church on 28th September 2023. Lovely looking beer, true Ruby red colour, off-white crown on top. Malty and yet hop bitter also, very drinkable.

Can 440ml (DBH)
Opaque black colour, not much head. Strong syrupy nose with coffee and maple syrup. Full-bodied. Sweet, syrupy, molasses, coffee, some fruits, alcohol, tartness probably from coffee beans, pecan nuttyness. Interesting but I am not a big fan of coffee here.

Deep orange colour, small white head. Overriped tropical fruits and gasoline in the nose. Medium-bodied. Mango juice, grapefruit, apricot and hop oils in the flavour. Oily fruit bomb.

Can from Eltham Wines. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is maple syrup, cocoa, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee. Taste is maple, dark chocolate, camp coffee, liquorice toffee, backnote of jammy dark fruits. Lots going on in here. Oodles of alcohol warmth. Deep warming finish.

440ml can. Murky, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Citrusy hoppy and husky, pale malty aroma, notes of protein, some lemon, mandarine, orange. Taste is husky, pale malty and citrusy hoppy, notes of protein, lemon, some orange. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. A bit strange, somehow more a dry hopped Zwickel Ale (if that existed) than NEIPA - not bad, though.

Bit of a mixed bag here. Nice body, pretty boozy, sticky. Taste is quite a bit too sweet, though, unbalanced pastry mode. The rum is used very nicely, and that saves it for me, not the easiest barrel.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Aug 23. Pours dark, hazed, beige head. Inviting caramel aroma. Smooth, full flavoursome profile with seductive caramel chocolate sweetness running throughout with very well integrated bourbon sweetness. Harmonious. Very much my kind of thing.
