Cask, gravity at Banbury Beer Festival, Thursday 7th May 2015 Pours mid brown with a scattering of bubbles atop. The aroma is a malty, fruity and hoppy (although less hoppy) It is fruity in the mouth with some coffee and a little chocolate accompanying the fruitiness, fine but I guess that this isn’t a style that Kinver excel at. Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham @ 4.3%. Poured a clear dark amber with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is stale malt, light roast, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a smooth, light burnt treacle palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - bright orange with a generous head. Actually a bit of a gusher. Nose - sherbet a bit too much, but there are citrus hops in there too. Then light funky. Taste - oranges, actually going into burnt oranges. Palate - medium to full bodied with a tangy texture and a dry but slightly too fizzy, eluding to a wild yeast issue. Overall - is this a barley wine? But there’s a wild yeast issue.

500ml bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Gusher! Pours coat golden with a massive rocky head. Aromas of sherbet, probably a bit of wild yeast. Taste is oranges, marmalade, funk again. Too fizzy. Sweet finish.

Bottle from Saucy Pears. Appearance - golden with a nicely proportioned head. Nose - boiled green vegetables. Light toffee at the back. Taste - toffee and unpleasant green vegetables again. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy, slightly sour texture and a dry tangy finish. Overall - a bit odd and not sure that this is what the brewer intended.

1st May 2015: hand-pulled half-pint at the Crown Inn, Oakengates. Pale golden pour with a thin white head. Mild citrus lead in both the nose and taste: not the best from Kinver by a long way. Subtle and almost bland, needs some oomph into the flavours and body depth.

Bottle from Saucy Pears. Appearance - a touch lively on opening. Then amber with a generous fluffy head. Nose - ginger nut biscuits, light berry fruit and light toffee. Taste - toffee, biscuits and a big tangy lemon note on the finish. Palate - light to medium bodied with a crunchy middle section and a dry crunchy finish. Overall - a solid bitter.
