Description
Clearwater Brewery started life in 1998 in the town of Great Torrington, North Devon. Taking its name from the purity of the local water supply that forms an integral part of each tantalising mouthful of beer, the company has become an ever-growing local success story. From small beginnings the company used carefully selected recipes to build a local following and a well-earned reputation for delicious and characterful ales. Clearwater’s reputation and its beers have gradually grown throughout the local region. Clearwater Brewery relocated in 2014 where it now sits nestled in the hillside overlooking the maritime town of Bideford, North Devon.

500ml bottle: BBE Jul 15. Poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ vase shaped pint glass at home during a ’random tasting afternoon’ with myself on 10th Jan 15. Dull, but clear golden body with a flat, thin white scummy head. Not a lot of an aroma, mild hop traces but nothing worthy of note. The taste was also light in nature with mini hop flavours, again not a lot going on. Refreshing enough with a tropical fruitness as it warmed a little in the glass. Fairly dry finish but overall a beer lacking in depth and flavour.

500ml bottle: BBE of Jan 15. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home in Dec 14. Nice looking brew, true copper hue to the clear and clean body: sadly the head sank to a wisp and collar a bit too quickly for my liking. Fruity and caramel notes in the nose, the taste also semi-sweet and malty with fruit hints to find. Mild woody and nutty feel to the flavours within the taste, a decent blend overall and a pleasant enough beer for the winter.
