Bottle thanks to a generous trade. Pours a near clear dark brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains with notes of molasses with backing oak notes. Flavor is sweet with sweet grains, light fruit, molasses and a bit of a metallic note.

Draught, and served too cold. Black/brown pour with offwhite head. Faint coffee and roast malt aroma. Medium/light body, roast, coffee, a little chocolate. Light malt finish. Again, this beer was served too cold.

750 ml bottle sent to me by bvc. "barrel-aged gose" hand written on a Breakside Brewery label. The pour is a yellowish green, lightly hazed, with a smallish white head. The aroma opens as urinal cake initially, clears fast, then shows a soft natural salt, coriander, lemon citrus, and some warming bready grainy. Just a touch of tannin shows the barrel, but really not much wood character at all in the nose. The taste is a delicate blend of the bready grain, the soft salt, and the light citrus of the nose. Flavors are all fresh and vibrant, really natural tasting. The palate is light medium bodied, bright, prickly carbonation, and a clean salty finish. Nice - a highlight of this session. I had worried a barrel may kill the subtlety of the Gose, but it was nicely managed. Thanks Brandon.

On tap at GABF as Breakside Strong Northwest Saison. Pours with a hazy yellow body and a white head. Aromas are a bit sticky, tangerine, grainy, light esters. Flavors are really bitter, apple, noticeable alcohol. Grassy, citrus. Sticky, lively bubbles. Medium dry.

Clearly the best of the beers I tasted tonight. Crisp spicy aroma, with notes of hop. Balanced flavour, Balanced finish. I bought a grauw to take home. Well worth seeking out while it is there.

A rather unmemorable beer considering the effort put into it. Dark brown with a slight malt aroma. Almost no flavour, just a slight but pleasant sweetness. No finish

Draught. The problem is all you can taste is the rooibos tea. I like rooibos but a beer should not taste like a tea. Reddish amber with thick white head. Balanced aroma. Flavour is rooibos tea, no more. A bit of hop in the finish.

Really called a dark saison, but it’s not all that dark. Draught pour with a thick white head. Spicy aroma. Medium body for such a strong beer. Spice and malt in the flavour. Spicy finish.
