Description
Telegraph Brewing Co. was Santa Barbara’s first craft brewery. Brian Thompson founded the Belgian-inspired brewery in 2006.

Early American brewers adapted traditional European brewing techniques to the unique ingredients, climates, and tastes of the New World. At Telegraph Brewing Co., our beers are handcrafted in that same manner at our brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Making use of as many locally grown ingredients as we can, Telegraph's ales embody our philosophy that a local brewery should reflect the traditions of its region. Our goal is to produce uniquely American beer styles that are imbued with a spirit of invention and creativity, but always with a nod toward history.

In 2017 Utah-based Epic Brewing purchased Telegraph.

750 ml bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Bottled on Jan 12, 2009. Pour is cloudy yellow with a slight golden tinge. Nice white head falls slowly with some lacing. Aroma of sour wheat, and citric tart lemons. The two flavors integrate nicely and are soft and inviting. Taste is spritzy lemon, lactic, nice tartness and a mild sour wheatiness. Palate is light, though coats the mouth nicely. Really nice and refreshing beer. Thanks for sharing this one Eugene.

Draft. A hazy light golden beer with a thin lazing white head. The aroma is slightly acidic with notes of brettanomyces and friut. The flavor is sweet with acidic notes of brettanomyces as well as notes of citrus fruit and some wheat, leading to a dry wheaty and slightly tart finish.

Bottle. Sent in picture to be uploaded. Served cold, and still nearly took my face off. Would have gushed for sure. Still, pours with a huge rocky, barely off-white head over a light copper body. Aroma is strong with banana esters, burnt brown sugar, peach, spices, apricot, leather, earth and pear skin. Slightly phenolic. Taste is pear eau de vie, earth, slight metallicy, bready, spicy and grassy. Long duration. Very earthy. Very lively carbonation, just a hint of alcohol in the form of brandy. Lightish body for the alcohol.

750ml bottle. Nov 08’ date. pours golden, lightly hazy, white head that seemed to melt away before my eyes. aroma was funky and tart with notes of wheat. taste, wheat, lots of carbonation, hints of hops and spices for a light vinegary palate with a skunky tart finish. This is not what I had expected, especially after it was recommended to me.

Bottle from South Bay Drug. Cork came out with a lot of pressure behind it. Poured hazy amber with a large finely bubbled beige head. Smells like fresh light fruits, sugar, spice and everything nice. That’s what good Belgians are made of. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is a little citrus, a little brown sugar, a little peach/apricot, a little yeast spice, and maybe even something like grassy hop. Finishes a bit astringent. But it’s not super bitter. Fairly well balanced. Finishing sweet and bitter - seems reasonable for a Belgian.
