Description
8 Wired is a micro brewing company based in Warkworth, New Zealand.
Our mission is to produce mind blowing beers that will wow craft beer lovers, excite fellow beer geeks and educate the mis-guided who still believe that "beer is just beer". If you want to come on this journey with us, please get in touch.
8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.
After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

330ml can. Pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, treacle, dark fruits. Taste is very rich, treacle, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, roast, liquorice, brown sugar, leather, sweet, gentle alcohol warmth the only hint that this might be a strong beer - really wouldn't have guessed as high as 15%. Full bodied, smooth. Thought the original was outstanding but so is this.

From a 440ml can on 19/5/2022 (2020 edition). Pours near black with pretty much zero head. Has a sharp nose, lightly woody and roasty. Tastes a bit odd tbh - definitely chocolate, maybe a hint of caramel, and some roasty charred elements, along with some wood and bourbon booziness, but it’s dominated by the finish, which is sharp, lingering and more sour than bitter. Doesn’t have the body that you’d expect for the size of the beer either. Carbonation is average. A bit muddled and quite disappointing.

Can from The Hanging Bat. Milky golden body with a white head. No visible carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of dried grass and papaya. Flavour of gala melon and bitter hops. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. A nice but slightly confusing beer - looks and smells like a soft NEIPA but has a slightly brash hoppy bite more like a WCIPA.

On tap at Aslan Depot, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very complex and elegant, with lots of red wine barrels, roasted malt, and tannins. Flavour is exquisite, with lots of red wine barrels, tannins, and roasted malt. The red wine works perfectly with the roast, leaving just the right amount of tannins. This is lovely.

Can from The Fuss Club. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is chocolate cake, caramel, sticky toffee pudding, black treacle. Taste is full on chocolate action - very puddingy (not a word but should be), caramel, maple, more sticky toffee pudding, raisin. Rich gullet warming finish. Bloody brilliant.

440ml can. Hazy, orange golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. (Citrusy) fruity and resinous, grassy, hoppy aroma, notes of yellow stone fruit, some orange, weed, resin, underlying hints of white grapes, gooseberry. Taste is bitter, slightly zesty, citrusy fruity hoppy, a bit resinous and grassy, hints of mandarine, orange, orange peel, some yellow stone fruit, a touch of white grapes, gooseberry. Watery texture, indifferent palate, medium, soft, mildly prickly carbonation. Not overly intense, quite watery - disappointing.
