Description
Chalk Hill Brewery was formed in 1993 by Bill Thomas, Tiny Little and David Blake – a group of friends with a shared interest in sailing, and beer. It now stands as the longest running independent brewery in Norwich!

The brewery was named after the surrounding area which was previously known as Chalk Hill, and is now Rosary Road. The brewery is a custom built 15 barrel plant and brews a selection of permanent and seasonal real ales. The brewery supplies it’s beer to local pubs including The Coach and Horses which is on the same site as the brewery.

Cask ale at Coach & Horses in Norwich. Shared with friends. Decent fawn-coloured head. Pitch black body. Aroma of roasted malts, hints of caramel. Taste of caramel and chocolate joined by moments of dried fruits. Roasted mid-sweet malty ending, short-lived. Rather thin bodied. Easy going (18.02.2017).

Black color with a beige head that gives a fine lacing. Decent intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft carbonation level. Sweet stout, yes it is. Chocolate, roast and some fruity notes in the flavor. Quite session able, but also a bit anonymous.

Clear nutty color with a off white head. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft to flat carbonation level. A bit sweet and a mild bitterness. Dried fruits, bready and caramel flavor. Some strange suorish notes. Not to inviting this.

Clear deep golden color with a white head that leaves a fine lacing. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft carbonation level. Tad sweet and a fine bitterness. Malty, fruity, citric and some pine in the flavor. Decent one.

Clear deep golden color with a off white layer on top. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft carbonation level. Moderate sweet and a mild bitterness. A bit more fruit than normal and the usual caramel flavor. Not very inviting this.

Cask at the Plasterers Arms, Norwich, 16/02/17. Black with a decent khaki cap. Nose is light roast, cocoa powder, toffee, spice, fruit tang. Taste comprises lactic notes, bitter chocolate, light spice, earthy, tarte fruit linger. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close. Ok stout.

Cask at The Coach & Horses, Norwich. Pours golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of light fruit, hop and malt. Medium+ sweetness and light bitterness. Medium body and sticky texture, carbonation is soft. Dry finish. Least favourite of the 7 CHB tried tonight.

Cask at The Coach & Horses, Norwich. Pours chestnut brown with a small off white head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate, malt, light fruit. Medium+ sweetness and light bitterness, and touch of sour. Medium body and rather oily texture, carbonation is soft, finish is dry and fruity.

Cask at The Coach & Horses, Norwich. Pours amber with a bubbly lasting off-white head. Aroma of hop, citrus and tropical fruit. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body and rather sticky texture, carbonation is soft. Finish has lasting bitterness.
